Last week, Shawmut Strategies Group Partner Dianne Morad was proud to join Professor Samuel Gebru and a cohort of inspiring local nonprofit leaders for the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) in the Tufts University School of Medicine. The 2-day Advancing Community Heath through Advocacy training featured panel discussions that covered various aspects of policymaking and advocacy. This kind of training is critical to ensuring that community voices are included in the decisions our leaders make every day. We are grateful for the opportunity to participate.

SSG client Iron Workers Local 7 was proud to celebrate with Governor Healey when she announced that the North Station Draw One Bridge would be completed under a Project Labor Agreement (PLA). PLAs provide certainty on major projects, with this one expected to take approximately six years to complete.

A $1.2 billion project to replace a Depression-era drawbridge in the heart of Boston and create more than 15,000 jobs will be completed under the terms of a newly signed project labor agreement, Gov. Maura Healey announced Thursday.

Shawmut Strategies Group joins the Commonwealth in mourning the loss of State Representative Ann Margaret Ferrante. A friend to so many, she will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Her family and loved ones are in our thoughts.

We also wanted to share a touching note from SSG Partner Joseph A. Giannino about his dear friend Ann Margaret:

"Since the day I graduated from high school, my professional life has been centered at or near the MA State House. Over the years, I have crossed paths with countless colleagues—some memorable, some not so much. Regardless, all who have worked ‘in the building’ share a unique bond, which is why when I got a call from a fellow former staffer asking me to come to a meeting at her office, I went.

That was fifteen years ago. From that day forward, a one-time acquaintance became so much more than a friend. Ann-Margaret Ferrante was family. I loved her, appreciated her and was in awe of her strength and resolve. Her brilliance and grit were the perfect blend of her ‘Mama’ Frances, a librarian, and her dad ‘Pino’ (Italian nickname for Joe), a fisherman.

AMF was small but mighty. Her tenure as a legislator was marked with victories too numerous to list. They were testament to her dedication and effectiveness. She was highly educated but grounded. She was successful but humble. She was one of the most decent, compassionate and charitable people I have ever known. She was also a formidable opponent—just ask anyone who challenged her. Ever.

Her faith in God guided her daily. She never wavered, even in the most difficult moments of her life. It seems fitting that she would be called Home on Thanksgiving—a day when we take a moment to reflect and give thanks for life’s blessings. Of course, our hearts hurt for the loss of our friend, but rather than mourn her death, I’m certain Ann-Margaret would want us to celebrate her life.

Rest peacefully, AMF. You will be missed."

Yesterday, Dianne Morad of Shawmut Strategies Group joined a roomful of leaders for the unofficial launch of “My America: From Ground Zero to Common Ground.” This important project seeks to engage America’s youth in a conversation and a tangible representation of their vision of America. We are honored to participate.

Last week, the Shawmut Strategies team was awarded the Best Overall Ballot Question/Referendum and Best Overall Field Campaign at the Polaris Awards in London.

If you visited a restaurant across Massachusetts last year, you saw signs, stickers, QR codes, table signs and check inserts that all spoke about why Question 5 was a bad idea. Those materials became the backbone of our field campaign and moved hundreds of thousands of voters to say NO on 5.
