Foundational to why we started Merritt Chase—and to the work we continue to do in cities like Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Cleveland—is a vision for a new chapter of public space and urbanism across the region.
We believe this next era can build a stronger culture of public gathering, make our cities more walkable and bikeable, and advance an approach to design that is distinct to these places—rooted in local ecology, climate, culture, and history. Thank you for the opportunity to put these thoughts into the world.
You will see us talking and writing about this theme throughout the year and beyond. Follow along at the upcoming Future Now Summit, the Conference, and the Oberlander Prize Forum.
We’ll explore what this new era for the region looks like, highlighting the many peers and partners shaping it—not only in landscape architecture and urban planning, but also in local politics, public process, philanthropy, community organizing, culture, and the arts.
