❄It has been awhile since our last update! Work progresses slowly but surely. After some rounds of play testing and design feedback, our beloved 3 eyed rat-shark critters, the Swarmers, have had a bit of a reworking, and remodeling. New and improved, previously 3 separate models doing their own actions, now one single based model, with its stats and behaviors completely revamped. Icebound was created with the wild animals meant to be a focus, so it was important to nail these down. Each model has its own little personality, we're especially happy with the one missing an eye, he's got a bone to pick with someone.

Happy Holidays to everyone! Until next time!

❄On this episode of Icebound updates, here is a fun post on today's work in progress! The Scron ranks continue to grow! Those big eyes of theirs are never up to any good.

Here are many WIP pictures, to help show the modeling process a bit. First we sculpt the rough shape of the creature, giving it the belly and mouth sections while being flat on the ground. Followed by posing it upright with a slight "S" curve, but body still centered. Next it needed to look like it was tunneling out from the ground, so a rocky base had to be made. Afterwards the base was defined with more rock and dirt debris, along with the Scron's signature single eye and bumpy carapace detailing. I then curved its body with a slight back and forth wiggle to the left and right, as it felt just too stuck in place and not enough movement was happening. Lastly, I plugged in a square under its body to key the worm in to the base, so he should fit right in nice and snug in to position.

Off to the printer it goes, we'll see what it looks like tomorrow. The spikes may need to be beefed up a bit, might be too tiny. What you see on the screen vs reality is sometimes quite the challenge. Once finished, its painting time! More to come soon!

Doing some testing at home today! Seeing things on the table all coming together makes the effort so worth it! We have some terrain on the table too! Snowy rocks and a cave as well as something dangerous observing in the back. Here are the Everdawn colonists and the Scron squaring off, and an elusive Snow Stalker is going to eat that Spitter for breakfast.

Today we continue last weeks post about modeling and detail scale. Here are two variants of the Breaker that I’ve had painted up for a bit while working on everything else. An issue I always had was the heads! In the close up picture you’ll see the armor around the neck is a bit too thick and the head itself actually is one with the body, they are not separate parts. When painting this proved to be a bit annoying because the head too small and touching the armor, and I’m not a fan of when it looks like parts “clip” into each other.

The last few pictures are these same models but I’ve taken the heads out, resized the neck section, and made them a separate bit. The models themselves are also upscaled a tiny bit. These fixes should make these fellas easier to paint, show better detail, and gives you a bit of options on which direction they’re looking. Calling these done for now, off to get a new paint job. The colonists and their HEX armors do not have a set color scheme yet, here is a group photo! I am always open to any new ideas! This blue was the first thing that came to mind. What do you think? Who knows, your suggestion could be the color scheme that makes it into the rulebook! (Pardon the photo quality! Taking good pictures is another skill I need to learn!)

Paint schemes and detail scale! I’d like to have a quick chat about game development and sculpting models. When making these creatures, I always try to keep a thought in my head about how easy is this to paint? Sometimes what you see on the computer screen doesn’t translate to real life that well at this small scale. Here you have pictures of the Scron Broodmother, and the Slicer both with two very different color schemes. What you see here is also the third iteration of both of these miniatures as prior versions had issues after 3d printing them, such as teeth being too small, gaps between the arm joints being tight to paint, legs being too thin, you get the idea! I aim to make this space very transparent regarding all aspects of game progress, as so much goes in to it that I believe gets easily overlooked. So tell me which color scheme do you like the best?

First Instagram post in a bit! Facebook didn’t seem to carry some updates over to here, so this is a quick catch up post. We are working on a tabletop skirmish game called Icebound. Set on a frozen planet far away, stranded colonists find themselves at odds against the locals! The colonists of the ill fated Everdawn utilize exosuits to help navigate their new home. The new neighbors are known as the Scron, large territorial aliens with a single large eye. We’ll be keeping updates on development here and on our page. More to come soon!

One of the many alien life forms the colonists of the Everdawn have to contend with are the Scron. A strange bug-like species with a single large eye and a lot of aggression.

They play as a glass-cannon type in game, and are mostly focused on getting in close. The Broodmother is an oddity among them, with a large glowing abdomen that radiates significant amounts of heat, allowing itself and nearby creatures the ability to survive in the negative temperatures. The Slicer is the one pictured covered in spikes all down its back. One of the most dangerous seen so far, its front legs and teeth can tear in to just about anything. Lastly we have the Spitter, with its scorpion like tail. As the name implies, the creature secretes an acid gland near the end of its tail that it launches out at its prey. If anyone gets too close it can use its tail pincer to defend itself as well.

Game wise, the slow moving Broodmother can give one model nearby a free move action to help with repositioning, and helps with the faster Scron and over-extending, keeping them close for safety. The Slicer's attacks cause the Bleed status condition, which enemies take extra damage the next time their turn comes. It's spiked backside can harm those foolish enough to try to take a swing at it. The Spitter's acid lowers enemies armor values, making them easier to take down. It's tail attack is able to throw smaller enemies away from itself, adding some strategy to board placement.

When combined, they have some board positioning synergy while allowing you to soften up your foes and hit where it hurts!

In addition to today's little update.

Here are a few pictures of some miniatures as well. More to come! These are known as the HEX'es. Hazardous Environmental Exosuits. While most of the colonists supplies were destroyed in the crash, a few key pieces of equipment were salvaged. While the suits are the height of technology at the time, the surviving colonists have basic training with these. They are farmers, engineers, and scientists, not skilled soldiers.

Pictured is the HEX-01 Enforcer with his trusty rifle. Then the HEX-02 Breaker with flame throwers, and finally the HEX-03 Mender, with mending beamer, able to keep her repair her fellow pilots if damaged.

Everything seen is currently designed in Zbrush 3d modeling software, then 3d printed in resin. Below are some renders, plus painted examples. I am learning to do all this as free time allows, if anyone has any advice on photography or rendering improvements I'd be happy to learn to improve.

It's been awhile! I've decided to start posting updates on a project I've been working on very slowly over the last few years, to help document progress.

Welcome to Icebound, a tabletop skirmish game where two players battle not only each other—but the unforgiving world around them. Set on a frozen planet far from Earth, the game follows the struggle of the surviving colonists of the crashed Everdawn Ark. With limited resources, deadly weather, and hostile wildlife, survival depends on strategy and adaptability.
