A chimney cap may be a small part of your chimney, but it has a big job! It helps keep rain, debris, and unwanted visitors out while allowing the flue to vent properly. Ask us about your chimney’s cap.

Here is a distinction that saves Delaware County homeowners money. The NFPA standard is that chimneys are inspected annually and cleaned if necessary. Those are two separate questions, and reversing them is how people end up paying for a sweeping they did not need while a cracked liner goes unnoticed. A real inspection looks at the liner condition, the flue size relative to the appliance, the crown, the cap, the damper, the smoke chamber, and the clearances to wood framing, and a video scan is the only reliable way to document the inside of a flue you will never see yourself. One safety note: watch for the warning signs, but never try to patch a liner or open up a chimney to investigate. That is confined space, carbon monoxide, roof access, and code clearances all at once. Late summer and early fall are the easiest time to get on the schedule. More here.
