First things first: yes, my smile is BLUE. ๐
Before anybody starts wondering what was going on at the Back to School Bashโฆ WATER ICE. ๐ Thatโs it. Thatโs the explanation.
Now, if youโre new here, let me properly introduce myself.
Iโm Courtney. Iโm a mother, entrepreneur, community builder, and the founder of Teen Moms Matter.
Iโm from Philadelphia, and my story with this work is deeply personal.
I became a mom at 17, during my senior year of high school.
So when I talk about young parents, Iโm not speaking from a textbook or from the outside looking in. I know what it feels like to be young, raising a child, trying to figure out your own life while everybody else has an opinion about what your future is supposed to look like.
But I also know something else.
Becoming a young parent does not disqualify you from having a big life.
That belief is the foundation of Teen Moms Matter.
I built this organization because I wanted young parents to have access to the things that can actually change the trajectory of their lives: financial education, mentorship, career and economic opportunities, community, and people who see their potential beyond their circumstances.
What started with my own experience has grown into a movement.
And now I get to bring my children along as I do this work.
This picture was taken at the Back to School Bash, where the Chester County Department of Health invited Teen Moms Matter to table and represent the young parents we serve.
That full-circle feeling is not lost on me.
The girl who became a mom at 17 is now building spaces where young parents can see themselves as leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, and people with options.
So if youโre new here, welcome.
Youโll hear me talk about motherhood, economic mobility, financial power, opportunity, community, and what happens when we stop defining young parents by their circumstances and start investing in their potential.
Iโm Courtney.
These are my babies.
This is my why.
And this is Teen Moms Matter.
And apparentlyโฆ we also take our water ice VERY seriously. ๐๐ค
