The fanciest location in the valley isn't automatically the right one for your engagement session. I know that sounds like a weird thing for a photographer to say, but stay with me.
Before I plan any engagement session, I ask couples one question. Not "what did you see on Pinterest" but: where do you go when you just want to be together?
That answer is usually worth more than any location list I could hand them.
The couples who look most relaxed, most themselves, most in love in their portraits? They picked the place where they already feel that way. The trail they've hiked a hundred times. The coffee shop. Their own kitchen with the good light and the stack of books they've both read.
It doesn't need to be dramatic. It needs to feel like you.
That said, a few practical things worth knowing before you book your session date and location together.
If you're hoping for golden hour light, your location and your start time are really one decision. Plan them together, and if you're visiting more than one spot, leave room for travel because good light doesn't wait around.
Foot traffic is worth thinking through, too. A high-traffic downtown area could mean unexpected guests showing up in the background of portraits you'll hang on your wall for the next thirty years.
But mostly, start with meaning and work backward from there. Ask yourselves where you go when you just want to be together. That's where we should be.
If you're planning an engagement session in Teton Valley or the Jackson area and want to talk through ideas, feel free to reach out. Happy to help you think through it.
