MAJOR WINTER STORM IS VERY LIKELY in North Texas on Friday and Saturday.
Confidence continues to grow in a high-impact winter weather event, with dangerous ice accumulation and significant snowfall likely. This could lead to extensive power outages, major travel disruptions, and infrastructure impacts if the forecast continues to verify.
Friday is expected to begin as mostly rain across the region, with a transition to freezing rain Friday night as colder air moves in. This raises the risk for widespread ice accumulation. While exact ice amounts are still uncertain, the potential for significant icing remains, which keeps the threat of power outages on the table. Very cold air arriving on Saturday will further increase the danger.
By Saturday, freezing rain will persist across much of North Texas, while snow continues near the Red River before tapering off after sunset. The combination of ice, snow, and falling temperatures could make road conditions extremely hazardous and worsen any power-related impacts.
While it is still too early to lock in exact snowfall or ice totals, forecast confidence has increased in a disruptive winter weather setup. Guidance continues to support a broad area of impactful wintry precipitation, even though precise amounts and exact locations will become clearer closer to the event.
