WAIT!

Don't rush the process of hiring someone too soon.

πŸ™ƒ I did, and here's what happened...

As a nanny agency owner, I tell families all the time that it's usually best to wait until you're a little closer to your due date before officially hiring your nanny.

Then I became a mom of two...
.. and I broke my own rule.

I thought I was getting ahead.

Instead, I learned that your needs can change A LOT once your baby actually arrives.

Your schedule changes, and your priorities change.

Sometimes, the nanny who seemed like the perfect fit before your baby was born doesn't feel like the right fit once you're actually living your new routine.

πŸ’ It's not that you did anything wrong.

You just know more about what you need now.

So if you're expecting, don't feel like you have to rush just because you haven't found your nanny yet.

The right timing matters, and the right match matters even more.

πŸ‘©β€πŸΌ If you want someone to handle the logistics for you so you can focus on enjoying your pregnancy as much as possible, DM us. We can help.

If you've ever tried to drink a cup of coffee while you have a toddler, you already know the problem. 🫠

You make the coffee....

You take one sip.

Someone needs a snack.

You take another sip.

Someone needs help with something that absolutely could have waited.

You take one more sip, and now your coffee is basically iced. πŸ™ƒ

So here's my highly scientific toddler-mom solution:

Tell them it's time for a diaper change, and watch them run away.

Then drink your coffee. β˜•οΈ

πŸ˜‚ Sometimes you have to work smarter, not harder.

Tag the toddler mom who deserves to drink her coffee while it's actually HOT.

Some experiences change you in ways you don't fully understand until much later. ❀️

For me, the NICU was one of those experiences.

I've been a NICU mom twice now, and even though Jude and Mila had very different journeys, both experiences left a mark on me.

It's hard to explain what it's like to become a parent while also navigating fear, uncertainty, and a hospital room instead of the beginning you imagined.

πŸ‘Ά Even after you bring your baby home, the experience doesn't necessarily stay at the hospital.

Sometimes it:

-Follows you home.

-Is the anxiety that lingers.

-Is the way you hold your baby a little tighter.

- Is simply realizing that an experience you thought you had ""moved past"" is still something you carry with you.

πŸ‘©β€πŸΌ I think that's why NICU Awareness Month matters.

Not just to remember the babies who fought their way home...

But to recognize the parents who were fighting alongside them, too.

If you've been through the NICU, please know that whatever you're still feeling is valid.

You aren't alone.

πŸ’ For every NICU parent still carrying that experience: I'm thinking of you this month.

Sometimes motherhood is about having boundaries...
.. and sometimes it's about knowing when you need five quiet minutes. πŸ™ƒ

Nobody said you had to be perfect.

You just have to make it through the day.

πŸ’ Consider this your official permission slip to do less today.

There comes a moment when you realize ...
.. you are parenting your second child with approximately 15% of the anxiety you had with your first. πŸ™ƒ

First kid:

Everything is sanitized.

Nobody touches them without washing their hands.

The binky hits the floor?

πŸ˜‚ Absolutely not. Throw it away.

Second kid:

Purse snacks.

Floor Cheerios.

The five-second rule has somehow become the five-minute rule.

And if there's a dog toy in her mouth?
.. well, she's happy. πŸ˜…

Parents of multiples, am I right or am I right?

πŸ’¬ Second-time parents, what was the biggest difference between kid #1 and kid #2?

When you're trusting someone with your kids, experience and qualifications matter.

But so do the little things.

There are a few things you probably shouldn't ignore during the search:

🚩 No references you can actually contact.

🚩 Nobody seems to be on the same page about responsibilities, schedule, or pay.

🚩 They're not CPR or first aid certified.

🚩 They're consistently late or unreliable before you've even started working together.

None of these things automatically tell you everything about a person.

But they're worth paying attention to.

The goal isn't just to find someone who can fill the hours ...
.. it's to find someone you can actually build a relationship with.

πŸ’š That's why we look for the GREEN flags, too.

- Clear communication
- Mutual expectations
- Trust
- Professionalism
- Ongoing support

Those are the things that turn childcare into a partnership.

πŸ‘©β€πŸΌ Save this before you start your nanny search.

There are some seasons where it feels like you're checking things off your list left and right.

And then there are the seasons where you're just trying to keep everything moving. πŸ˜‚

This summer, I'm really proud of a few things I was able to check off my list.

First, I broke through a plateau in my business.

For a while, growth felt stuck. I kept showing up, kept working, and kept trusting that eventually the momentum would come.

πŸ™Œ This summer, we hit 400+ active accounts in Columbus.

Second, I created more space for my family.

I'm proud that I've been able to build more balance into my life and intentionally make more time to be present with my kids.

Because growing a business is important...

But so is actually getting to enjoy the life you're building it for. πŸ’

And third, I'm incredibly proud of my nanny team.

They continue to show up with so much dedication, reliability, and heart.

Watching them care for families and represent Twinkle Toes makes me incredibly proud of the team we're building.

Some of the best growth happens in the seasons that felt the hardest.

And sometimes, checking something off your list looks like asking for a little help along the way. πŸ˜‰

A lot of parents picture a very specific type of nanny.

πŸ‘©β€πŸΌ Usually someone older with years of experience.

And while experienced career nannies are incredible...

college-aged nannies deserve a lot more credit than they get. πŸ‘

Many are studying education, nursing, psychology, social work, or child development.

They're bringing fresh ideas, endless energy, flexible schedules, and they're often learning the newest best practices right alongside their coursework.

Sometimes the right nanny isn't the oldest candidate.

It's the one whose personality, schedule, and strengths fit your family best. ❀️

Being a nanny requires a surprisingly specific skill set. πŸ˜‚

Yes...

CPR certification matters, experience matters, reliability matters.

But there are also the skills nobody tells you about...

🧸 Toddler translator.
πŸ¦† Expert finder of "friend-shaped" animals.
πŸ™ƒ Professional snack negotiator.
πŸ‘ Master of making boo-boos disappear with one Band-Aid and a hug.

It's a career full of moments you could never put in a traditional job description...
..but every nanny knows exactly what they mean. ❀️

πŸ’¬ Nannies, what would you add to the list?

08/19/2026

If there's one thing kids are really good at...

it's reminding us that mistakes aren't the end of the story. ❀️

While making waffles, Jude accidentally dumped in way too much sugar and cinnamon.

"A little too much sugar & cinnamon never hurt nobody."

πŸ˜‚ Unfortunately, the waffles disagreed.

They didn't turn out...

so we tried again, and the next batch was much better. πŸ‘

Honestly, that's a pretty great reminder for all of us.

Not everything is going to work the first time.

The important part isn't getting it perfect, it's being willing to try again. πŸ’ͺ

πŸ§‡ Who would have thought that some of life's best lessons come wrapped in a failed waffle recipe?
