Union Fire was dispatched at approximately 2:00 PM on 3/5/2026 to assist the Sullivan Fire Department after a box truck driver drove down a flooded roadway and became trapped in his vehicle due to rising floodwaters. Union Fire responded with Brush 34 and Boat 1.
Upon arrival crews launched the boat and were able to safely reach the driver and transport him back to dry ground. Water levels in the area were estimated to be approximately 4–5 feet deep.

This incident serves as an important reminder never drive through flooded roadways. Even shallow water can quickly stall vehicles or sweep them away.Union Fire encourages everyone to Turn Around, Don’t Drown and avoid driving through flooded areas

Severe storms are expected across our area this afternoon and evening, with the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Now is the time to review your safety plan, secure outdoor items, and ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. please stay weather aware and seek shelter immediately if a warning is issued.

⚠️UPGRADE to level 3/5 severe risk today!

HAZARDS:
-Damaging winds to 60-65mph
-Large Hail up to 1.50" in diameter (Ping Pong Ball Size)
-Several tornadoes, some could be strong in the orange zone

TIMING:
2pm through 11pm ET

DISCUSSION:
Ingredients are becoming increasingly favorable for an all hazards severe weather threat across much of the state. Storm fuel and wind shear are increasing for southern counties, which has further raised concerns for a more scattered to widespread threat of severe weather. While the entire state has a risk today, we are keyed in on the enhanced risk in orange, as a couple strong EF-2+ tornadoes may occur today within this zone in particular.

Have multiple ways to receive warnings. We will be LIVE around 2-3pm ET here on Facebook and YouTube to cover this event in it's entirety with both storm chasers in the field and radar updates.
