😣 Night terrors are often confused with sleep crying, which usually happens in overtired toddlers.

😣 There are different ways to know if our toddler is having night terrors:
👉🏼 They take place during the 1st half of the night.
👉🏼The child looks scared/afraid; they scream and cry, and will not react to our intervention.
👉🏼The following day they will not remember anything.
👉🏼Sometimes they may look awake, but they are really not.

😣 Night terrors have their own cycles that need to be completed. Therefore, in most cases is it better not to intervene.

😣They may be caused by some medicines, overtiredness or sleep apnea.

😣 Make sure you track wake windows in order to avoid unnecessary wakings and and overtired toddler. That way it’ll be easier to determine if they are going through a night terror or no.

😣 They usually start around age 2.

⏰ This is just an example of what a sleep schedule could look like for a 4 to 6 months old.

⏰ When trying to put your baby on a schedule the most important thing is to keep in mind the wake windows.

⏰ Wake times will lengthen during this period. A more consistent schedule should be in place at this age.

⏰ This is just an example of what a sleep schedule could look like for a 3 to 4 months old.

⏰ When trying to put your baby on a schedule the most important things is to keep in mind the wake windows.

⏰ All schedules DO NOT look the same. You need to consider what’s best for you and your little one, and go from there. This is just a sample.

🦷 Teething: the big troublemaker.

🦷 How many times have you blamed everything on teething? Behavior, bad feedings, bad sleep,…

🦷 Truth is that it does affect sleep. However, the pain should not last more than 5 days. Once the tooth pops, it should be over.

🦷 If sleep issues continue after the tooth is out, then we must be looking at something else that is affecting sleep.

🦷 During teething try to move bedtime a little earlier if the day was rough, but try to keep routines and schedules the same if possible.

✔️It is one of the hardest sleep regressions our babies go through.

✔️Sleep becomes active, sleep cycles mature, and babies are aware of it. The problem now is their ability to connect cycles ir not independently.

✔️It happens between 3 - 5 months.

✔️This sleep regression results in difficulty sleeping, and with naps. Change in behavior and more wakings.

👉🏼Wondering how to survive the so dreaded 4 months regression??

1️⃣ Stay calm! It shall pass.

2️⃣ Stretch the wake windows to a maximum of 1:45 - 2 hours.

3️⃣ Keep everything the same (routines, schedules). Stay consistent. If you havent yet introduced a bedtime routine, start one.

4️⃣ Check the sleep environment (read previous post about it).

5️⃣ Careful with props! Switch your settling techniques around: rock, swing, pat,… but don’t let any of them become a prop.

👉🏼 How did you survive it? Going through the regression now?

FAQ 👉🏼 What should I do? Baby started to roll…😖

🔹No need to panic! It’s a milestone that needs to be achieved, and although it might be scary at night, it is exciting!!

🔹Try to make sure that you are practicing during the day. Practice, practice, practice!! Practice makes perfect, and that is just what we need: perfect rolling back and forth.

🔹Once you see your baby has mastered the skill and is comfortable rolling both sides independently, with no help at all… we are good to go! Baby can stay on his tummy if he rolls at night, and we don’t need to roll them back. No more rolling wake ups!

👉🏼 Is you baby rolling yet?

📲Share this with a newborn mama going through or approaching the rolling stage.

❓Have you heard about the ‘Baby Container Syndrome’ before?

❓How long are you putting your baby in a bouncer, floor seat, stroller, car seat, swing,…?

ℹ️ Placing a baby in any of these items for extended periods of time may lead to some issues known as the ’Baby Container Syndrome’.

ℹ️ We easily tend to get busy, and rely on these items to keep our babies safe while doing our chores. Specially my multiples mamas, I feel you!

ℹ️ Excessive time in a “container” will affect you baby’s development and delay the ability to achieve some milestones such as rolling, sitting, and/or standing.

ℹ️ It may also lead to plagiocephaly (flat spots on the head), and torticollis (tight neck muscles).

ℹ️ Limit “container time” to a maximum of 30 minutes a day. Place your baby on a supervised, safe baby proof area on the floor and allow them to move when awake. If they fall asleep in the container, move them to their sleeping space.

ℹ️ The American Academy of Pediatrics has also banned some of this equipment over time. Make sure you are aware of what you are using, it might not be safe!

📲If you found this useful, please share. Many families out there may need to hear this.

As a twim mom I get asked multiple times how I do it.

Well… here are some tips and tricks for twin life survival!

▫️When they send you home, your babies are on a 3 hour feeding schedule. Stick to it as much as possible; keep them on the same schedule with a difference of maybe 20-30 between them so that you can care for both in the even of being alone.

▫️Keeping them synced is a must. When one naps, the other naps. If one wakes up, wake up the other one.

▫️Share the night wakings and feedings with your significant other or family member. The goal is to get as much sleep as possible.

▫️Caring for 2 can feel like 10 sometimes, you need to find time for yourself, your mental health and be well rested.

▫️Sleep training twins may sound impossible, but it is not. We did both, in the same room, at the same time. It was exhausting, I have to say not easy… but the most rewarding thing for our family.

▫️Remember: consistency is the key to success!!

🔹I don’t know who came up with the brilliant idea of “that’s what you get for being a mom”.

🔹I don’t understand why people believe that it is okay to be judgmental.

🔹Parents are humans, not robots. They get tired, and they need sleep as much as their children do.

🔹Sleep deprivation is not safe. It affects our bodies mentally and physically, therefore the way we care for our babies.

🔹Sleep is a basic need for you as it is for your growing little ones, just like food. So please make it a priority!
