How do you know when you’ve rinsed your hydro dipped piece long enough? 🔦 Hydrokon takes some of the guesswork out of hydro dipping.

Our printable PVA film has a built-in fluorescent indicator. Shine a UV blacklight on the dipped part during rinsing. If you still see a bluish-white glow, PVA residue remains. Keep rinsing until the glow is gone.

It’s one of the small details built into Hydrokon film to help make your process more consistent.

Beginner’s Hydrodipping Checklist:

▪️Set up a clean, well-ventilated workspace
▪️Print and cut your design on Hydrokon film
▪️Clean, prep and prime your object as needed
▪️Apply your base coat
▪️Heat water to approximately 90°F / 32°C
▪️Place film printed-side up and hydrate for about 60–75 seconds
▪️Apply activator evenly
▪️Dip slowly and smoothly at an angle
▪️Rinse away all remaining film residue
▪️Dry and protect your finished design with a clear top coat

Beginner tip: Start with a small, simple object while you get comfortable with water temperature, activation and dipping technique. Consistency makes a big difference!

Hydrokon is a PVA-based water transfer film, so the way you store it directly impacts how consistently it prints and activates during dipping. For repeatable year-round results, keep film in a controlled environment at 65°–75°F (18°–24°C) and 35–55% relative humidity, store it sealed in the original foil packaging, and reseal opened rolls tightly after each use. Store rolls level with edges protected, keep them away from sunlight, heat sources, vents, doors, and windows, and let film acclimate while still sealed if it has been exposed to hot or cold conditions to help prevent curling, wrinkling, tackiness, brittleness, and uneven activation.
