It was good to spend the day yesterday strategizing with our partners in state government, Continuum of Care leaders, and staff from the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness. It was even better getting to know each other better and supporting each other through the current challenges. We remain as committed as ever to working with people experiencing housing instability and creating safe options for people without housing.

Collaboration and relationship-building are key to ending homelessness.

That’s why local Continuum of Care coordinators, Minnesota Tribal Collaborative to Prevent and End Homelessness leaders, Minnesota’s Homeless Management Information System staff, and MICH and State agency staff get together quarterly. We talk about what’s going on in our communities, ways we can strengthen and improve programs and processes, and coordinate efforts to best serve people facing homelessness and housing instability.

We’re grateful for this circle where we can deepen trust and collaborate in meaningful ways together!

It was a joy to be a part of the celebration for Grace House of Itasca County's Emergency Shelter expansion celebration last week.

One of the highlights of 2024 was working with Divine Konnections as they grow and expand to meet Duluth's housing needs! The Comfort and Joy Duplexes will be an innovate model of energy efficient duplexes that will be sold to families who are ready for first-time homeownership. The extra rental unit will help make the duplexes affordable to the families! I am proud that PBC was able to help Divine Konnections secure nearly $1 million for this project.

✅ Our board just said “yes” to a list of projects spanning every region of the state, totaling nearly $191 million and resulting in 2,276 homes being created or preserved. These projects, which started as proposals from developers, can now move forward—meaning more affordable homes are on their way! 🎉

We really were honored to receive this award from the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless at their recent conference in Duluth. We are in good company with these amazing people and organizations!

🏆 The was one month ago, and we are still reminiscing on the wonderful moments. We want to lift up the winners of the 2024 Annual Awards and share a little more about their great work across the state. It was an eventful summer at Patty Beech Consulting! It started with joy and laugh-filled Baby Showers for Cara with our colleagues in Itasca County and the Tribal Collaborative. Then a team of us presented at the National Alliance to End Homelessness Conference in D.C, and Cary and Cody's baby, Mack arrived! After that, I did both of our jobs for three months, of which a highlight was forming a Youth Action Board with AEOA and working with these amazing young people to complete an application for HUD's Youth Homeless Demonstration Program! The summer ended with our award at the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless Conference. In between, we have had the pleasure to work with the NE CoC, The Salvation Army & One Roof, Divine Konnections, Family Rise Together, Center City Housing, and the Tribal Collaborative -- all working on important and much-needed projects to house individuals and families without housing! Whew!

It was a pleasure last week to meet the new Implementation Consultants who are guiding the State of Minnesota's Crossroads to Justice Plan. It gives me hope to work with so many good people who are working together to prevent and end homelessness in Minnesota!

The NE Continuum of Care to Prevent and End Homelessness is one of the ongoing projects at Patty Beech Consulting! In 2022, the NE CoC was one of 32 communities/regions in the U.S. to be awarded funding to address unsheltered homelessness. This new report from the National Alliance to End Homelessness highlights the challenges of growing numbers of unsheltered homeless people, even in rural areas, and the opportunities that this new funding offers to get people the housing and services they need!

In 2023, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development invited Continuums of Care across the nation to identify what they needed to reduce unsheltered homelessness in their communities and to submit projects that respond to those needs. In response […]

We submitted 5 state grants totaling $1.7 million for a nonprofit housing developer yesterday, and one grant to HUD for $560,000 today! The HUD grant will support 12 nonprofit and tribal projects in the NE region, outside of St. Louis County! We are on a roll!
