A question for my biker family and friends... What do YOU think ABATE does? I'm sure most know they are the biggest reason here in WI and over in MN we still have freedom of choice when it comes to riding gear. It is a lot more than that though. Yes, we're a political organization. Members spend a lot of time corresponding with Representatives, Congress people, Mayors, Senators, and basically anyone that will listen and possibly help push bills through the process that help us live our motorcycle lifestyles. From helmet laws to our right to repair our own bikes, or bring it to your local favorite shop, not be forced to bring it to the dealer giving us access to the same technologies as the dealerships. Ever thought about how your bike will run on 87 octane? Or worse yet, corn fuel? ABATE is on the forefront of the fight to keep 91+ octane available for our recreational activities. Even if you don't ride, but you mow your lawn, maybe have a pontoon you enjoy on the weekends, the government is pushing electric so hard, there are states pushing to discontinue high octane fuels essentially forcing us to buy electric to replace our fossil fuel tools and toys. We are also in support of legislation to reduce the sales tax on older motorcycles, just like the 10 year old car. Flat rate after 10 years instead of being charged $800 to transfer a 2012. We also raise money to help put the younger generations through motorcycle safety courses. I appreciate those that made it this far into this long winded post, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Our memberships are declining and I for one am actively going to pursue new members. We've already lost WI 6B, it had to be absorbed by another chapter that isn't as local. I fear the Northeast MN isn't too far behind them. Even though I'd love more friends, old and new at our monthly meetings, I understand it's not convenient for all. Maybe new members, will come with new ideas for advancing our agenda for motorcycle safety, awareness and training. $30 for a single, $50 for a couple per year. Upping our membership numbers gives us a louder voice at the state and federal Capitol. Politicians see numbers not faces, we know that. Thanks for reading and give joining us some thought. Enjoy your evening, and as always, keep the shiny side up and rubber side down!
