🚨 HERDA CUSTOMZ IS BACK OPEN! 🚨

I’m officially back to work as of today! 🙏

I’m feeling much more like myself and grateful to be back, but I don’t want to overdo it or put too much stress on my chest. For now, I’ll be sticking to window tint and light work while I continue to recover.

Thank you to everyone who supported me, prayed for me, checked on me, and kept Herda Customz in your thoughts while I was out. It means more than I can say. 💜

If you have friends or family who need tint or light work done, please share this and let them know I’m back!

📲 Call or text 806-930-0936 to get on the schedule!

Thank you all for the continued support! 🙏

Joel update! ❤️ God is good! 🙏

Today Joel had a follow-up with his nephrologist.

For those who may not know, Joel received a dual kidney and pancreas transplant in 2019, so protecting his transplanted kidney has been one of our biggest concerns throughout this entire journey.

After his heart attack and bypass surgery, his kidney function dropped to around 20–30%. The doctors reassured us that this was expected because of the stress his body had been through with the heart attack, major surgery, and all of the medications. Thankfully, they never had concerns that his body was rejecting the kidney.

A few weeks later, his kidney function had already improved to about 60%, but his creatinine was still elevated at 1.9 (his normal before surgery was around 1.1–1.2).

Today, we received the news we had been praying for… his creatinine is back to 1.1! 🙏 His nephrologist is very happy with how his transplanted kidney is doing.

God has been so faithful through every step of this journey. There have been many scary moments, but today we are celebrating another answered prayer.

Joel is feeling better every day and is finally starting to seem more like himself again. We know there’s still more healing ahead, but today our hearts are full of gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to pray for Joel and our family. Your prayers have carried us through every milestone, and we truly believe they have made a difference. ❤️

Hi everyone ❤️‍🩹🙏 06/23 God is good!

A quick update on Joel:

As of yesterday we are 3 weeks post surgery!
Today he had his follow-up appointment with his surgeon. The tape was removed from his chest, and the doctor said everything is healing well. 🙏

He’s now cleared to lift up to 25 pounds and see how he tolerates it. In a couple of weeks, he’ll begin cardiac rehabilitation and will be attending therapy every other day to continue building his strength.

One of his medications was discontinued, and we’re hopeful that with time, a few more can be removed as well.

He’s still taking diuretics to help remove some remaining fluid, and today he had an X-ray to check for any fluid around his lungs/diaphragm. We’re waiting to hear those results.

Every appointment reminds us how far he’s come since his heart attack and emergency surgery. Recovery isn’t always easy, but we’re grateful for the progress and for every milestone along the way.

Thank you all for continuing to pray for Joel and our family. Your support has carried us through some very difficult days, and we are so thankful. 💜🩵🙏

06/08 God is good! ❤️‍🩹🙏

Joel finally got some sleep last night, almost 5 hours altogether! It took hours of moving between the bed and couch trying to find a position where he wasn’t in pain or struggling to catch his breath, but he finally got some much-needed rest.

Today was a better day. He walked a little more, ate a little more, and was more talkative. Recovery is definitely not easy, but seeing even the smallest improvements gives us so much hope.

He’s still coughing up a lot of mucus, which is uncomfortable and painful, but we’re trusting that each day will get a little better than the last.

We also got several follow-up appointments scheduled today, so we’ll be seeing his specialists soon. I can keep updating here if yall would like!

Thank you for continuing to pray for Joel, check on us, and carry us through the hard days. We feel every prayer. 💜🩵🙏

06/06-06/07 God is good! ❤️‍🩹

Joel was discharged yesterday evening and we were so excited to finally have him home. While we’re grateful to be out of the hospital, it’s definitely been an adjustment.

Unfortunately, Joel wasn’t able to get any sleep last night. He’s having trouble catching his breath and can only really sleep sitting up. The problem is that sitting up for long periods makes his back hurt, and he’s uncomfortable no matter what position he’s in.

I’ve been closely monitoring his oxygen levels, heart rate, and blood pressure, and thankfully everything is looking good there. However, he’s coughing up a lot of mucus, which causes him to cough hard. The coughing leads to chest pain, and sometimes his surgical incision will start to bleed a little, which creates a frustrating domino effect. 😞

I spoke with his doctor today, and he reassured us that everything Joel is experiencing is common after a surgery like this. Even though it’s hard to watch him struggle, it’s comforting to know that what he’s experiencing is part of the recovery process.

We’re taking things one day, one hour, and sometimes one minute at a time. Recovery at home looks a lot different than recovery in the hospital, and we’re learning as we go.

Thank you all for continuing to check on us, pray for Joel, and encourage our family. Your support continues to carry us through the difficult moments. Please keep praying for comfort, rest, healing, and easier days ahead. 💜🩵🙏

06/05 … God is good ❤️‍🩹🙏

Today has been an extremely hard day for me emotionally. I stepped away for a moment from Joel to be by my cousin’s side as she laid her sweet baby to rest. My heart is completely shattered, and carrying both of these realities at the same time has been incredibly heavy. Joel was upset he couldn’t be there physically but sent all his love 🥺

Even with everything, Joel continues to move forward in his recovery. He had another X-ray today, and overall everything is looking better. He still has some work to do with his lungs, but he is moving in the right direction.

He is now able to walk without the walker, which is a little tiring but a good deal. His blood pressure has been a little lower than ideal and his heart rate slightly elevated, but the doctors have said this is common and not concerning at this time. They are continuing to remove fluid with diuretics, which may be contributing to the lower blood pressure.

On a positive note, his oxygen has been weaned down to just 0.5 liters, and during rounds the doctor said his numbers are looking really good.

It’s been a day of both deep sorrow and quiet progress. We are holding on to faith and taking everything one moment at a time.

Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for Joel and for our family. Your love and support mean more than we can ever express. 💜🩵🙏

06/04 God is good! 🙏

Yesterday was another step forward for Joel’s recovery!

His last chest tube was removed, his labs continue to look good, and his potassium levels are back down where they should be. 🙏

One of the highlights of the day was that Joel was finally able to take a shower. It may seem like a simple thing, but after everything he’s been through, he said it felt so good. It definitely wore him out, but that’s to be expected.

He’s also eating a little more. Yesterday he was able to have two soups, and he got some much-needed rest overnight.

We’re so thankful for the progress we’re seeing each day. Thank you all for the continued prayers, messages, and support. Please keep praying for strength, healing, and continued progress for Joel. We appreciate every one of you more than you know. 💜🩵🙏

06/03 day 9 at the hospital… God is good! 🙏

Today was better than yesterday! Joel is more alert, talking more, and has eaten jello three times. The medical team was also able to remove 2 of his 3 chest tubes, his catheter, and the central line IV in his neck.

One of the biggest wins today was that occupational therapy got him up and moving. Joel was able to get out of bed, walk to the restroom, brush his teeth, and make it back to bed without any issues. He’s pretty tired afterward, but that’s expected and a good sign that his body is working hard to heal.

He is still swollen and his potassium levels are a little elevated, but the doctors say that’s common after this type of surgery. Overall, they are very happy with his progress and say he’s doing well.

Thank you all for the continued prayers, visits, messages, and support. Every prayer means the world to us. Please keep them coming as Joel continues his recovery. 💜🙏
