Leadership is no longer about having the loudest voice in the room or the highest title on the organizational chart.

Today, leadership is about influence, communication, facilitation, trust, and creating environments where people feel heard, respected, challenged, and empowered to contribute.

It was an honor to facilitate "Lead, Facilitate, Influence: Practical Communication and Facilitation Skills for The Pennsylvania State University Leaders."

During our two (2) hour session, we explored four critical leadership competencies that elevate professional effectiveness and strengthen organizational culture:

✅ Leading with Influence, Not Authority

* Building trust before attempting to lead
* Asking questions that invite participation
* Demonstrating emotional intelligence
* Leading through credibility and consistency
* Focusing on collaboration instead of control

✅ Structuring Meetings Without Strangling Them

* Establishing clear outcomes and expectations
* Creating agendas that guide rather than restrict
* Encouraging balanced participation
* Keeping discussions focused while preserving engagement
* Ending with accountability and actionable next steps

✅ Navigating Personalities and Expectations with Confidence

* Recognizing diverse communication styles
* Managing conflict without escalating tension
* Creating psychological safety
* Redirecting dominating behaviors professionally
* Clarifying expectations through effective communication

✅ Communicating with Clarity, Confidence, and Credibility

* Speaking with purpose and intentionality
* Simplifying complex information
* Preparing to strengthen credibility
* Leveraging tone, presence, and body language
* Ending conversations with alignment and action

One of the most powerful moments of the training came during our closing reflection when participants were challenged to identify:

🔹 One communication behavior they will strengthen.🔹 One facilitation skill they will apply immediately.🔹 One leadership habit they will stop doing.

Growth begins when reflection turns into action.
The reality is that the professionals who thrive in today's collaborative workplaces are not necessarily those with the highest titles. They are the individuals who communicate clearly, facilitate effectively, navigate personalities professionally, and influence others through trust and credibility.

As leaders, a valuable question to ask ourselves is:

What communication adjustment could I make this week that would increase engagement, trust, and collaboration within my team?

Thank you to the Pennsylvania State University leaders for your engagement, insights, and commitment to continuous growth.

“The ability to lead conversations with clarity, facilitate discussions with confidence, and influence people with integrity is one of the most valuable leadership skills any professional can develop." - Unknown

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce (VABCC) GovCon Conference at the Richmond Marriott, and I left with a full notebook, a fired-up spirit, and a clear roadmap for KMC Empowerment, LLC's next chapter in government contracting.

Here are my top takeaways as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) in the leadership training and development space:

✅ GET REGISTERED & CERTIFIED FIRST: The "GovCon Ready" session made it crystal clear: if you're not active in SAM.gov and your certifications aren't in order, you're not even at the starting line. KMC Empowerment is dialing in every detail of our federal positioning.

✅ RELATIONSHIPS OPEN DOORS: The structured matchmaking sessions were invaluable. Sitting across from government buyers and prime contractors and having real conversations about what they're actually looking for was the kind of access you simply can't get from a Google search.

✅ SMALL BUSINESS HAVE A SEAT AT THE TABLE — The energy in that room reminded me why I do this work. Black-owned, veteran-owned small businesses are needed in the federal contracting space. KMC Empowerment's customized leadership, communication, and team-building training programs are directly aligned with what agencies are prioritizing.

✅ COMMUNITY IS THE STRATEGY: The VABCC has built something special. Being in a room full of driven Black entrepreneurs all committed to breaking into and thriving in the government contracting space was genuinely motivating. We are stronger together.

Thank you to VABCC President & CEO Ernisha M. Hall and the entire VABCC team for creating this high-impact, high-access experience. This is exactly the kind of ecosystem that moves the needle for minority-owned and veteran-owned small businesses.

KMC Empowerment, LLC is ready. Let's build. 💼🇺🇸

This morning, I had the distinct privilege of delivering empowerment training at the Department of War Military Community and Family Policy (MC & FP) Professional Development Symposium 2026.

The session, “The Power of Influence Through Storytelling,” represented one of the most transformative training experiences within my organization.

In every professional environment whether you’re briefing leadership, aligning your team, or building trust with stakeholders your ability to communicate with purpose and persuasion is the difference between being heard and being remembered.

This training cut straight to the heart of that truth.

Here’s what we unpacked:

✅ The Principles of Influence that actually drive decisions

✅ Crafting messages that are clear, compelling & memorable

✅ Building credibility & trust before you even ask anything

✅ The art of storytelling as a strategic leadership tool

✅ Turning resistance into alignment — through empathy, not pressure

The biggest takeaway?
Facts inform. Stories transform. The most influential leaders don’t just present data they create narratives that connect on a human level, build bridges across disagreement, and inspire action where hesitation once lived.

This isn’t a “soft skill.” It’s a force multiplier especially in complex, high-stakes professional environments where trust and credibility are everything.

To every colleague who attended: let’s carry these tools forward. The next time you step into a briefing room, a difficult conversation, or a moment where you need to move people lead with a story worth telling.

Thank you to the organizers and facilitators of the MC & FP PD Symposium 2026 for investing in our growth. This is exactly the kind of development that shapes careers and outcomes.

Yesterday, Wednesday, April 08, 2026, I had the privilege of facilitating a highly engaging and impactful half-day virtual training for the University of Maryland Project Management Symposium leadership team on “The Power of Personality in Project Management.” There were 120 virtual participants in the room!

Together, we explored how understanding personality styles can elevate leadership effectiveness, strengthen team collaboration, and improve project outcomes. Through interactive discussions and practical applications, participants gained deeper insights into how to better communicate, manage conflict, and adapt their leadership approach to various teams.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the session was seeing leaders make real-time connections between personality awareness and their day-to-day project challenges, unlocking new strategies for influence, alignment, and ex*****on.

A sincere thank you to the University of Maryland Project Management Symposium team for the opportunity to contribute to such a dynamic and forward-thinking group of leaders.

Key takeaway: When project managers understand people as well as they understand processes, they unlock the true power of project success.

Join me for my in person session on Thursday, April 30, 2026. In this session I will training on the topic: LeaderSHIFT for Project Managers: Mastering Leadership Agility in the Age of AI
