📣 WVCBAPP Processing & Recertification Update

A few important reminders as we work through a very high volume of applications:

🔹 Late Fee: Recertification applications submitted after the August 30 deadline are subject to the $75 late/rush processing fee. Applications requiring this fee cannot be processed until payment is received.

🔹 Please be kind to our staff. WVCBAPP is operated by an all-volunteer board and staff, and everyone is working hard to review applications, answer questions, and process requests as quickly as possible. We truly appreciate your patience and professionalism.

🔹 Waiting on additional information? If you received an email stating that additional information will follow, please allow us until after Labor Day to send those instructions.

🔹 New applications: Right now, our priority is processing grant-related requests and recertification applications. New credential applications are temporarily on hold and will be reviewed within our normal 4–6 week processing timeframe.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while our volunteers work through this very busy renewal period.

📢 RECERTIFICATION UPDATE – WVCBAPP

Effective today, August 31, 2026, any recertification application submitted from this point forward must include the applicable late/rush fee before it will be processed.

Please remember:

✅ All continuing education certificates submitted for this renewal period must be dated between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2026.

⚠️ Any recertification that has not been completed by September 30, 2026 will be considered expired. Once your credential expires, you may not use the credential until your recertification has been approved and your credential is renewed.

You will have until December 31, 2026 to complete the late recertification process.

❗ After December 31, 2026, you will no longer be eligible to recertify. You will need to begin the credentialing process again as a new applicant, including meeting current requirements and testing.

Please review your application carefully, make sure your certificates fall within the correct date range, and include all required fees and documentation so your application can be processed without unnecessary delays.

Thank you for your cooperation and for being respectful and patient with our volunteer staff during this busy recertification period.

🚨 RECERTIFICATION DEADLINE REMINDER 🚨

Today at 11:59 PM is the final deadline to submit your recertification application without being charged the late/rush processing fee.

As of 2:25 PM Eastern Time today, all recertification applications that have been submitted have been reviewed.

If you received notice that additional information or documentation is needed, you will still have until September 30, 2026 to submit those items.

If you received an application approved notice, your approval letter and renewal stickers will be mailed to you shortly.

Please remember: the Peer Recovery Support Specialist grant funding has ended. Application and recertification fees are no longer covered, and all applications must be accompanied by payment in order to be processed.

If you still need to submit your recertification application and want to avoid the late fee, please make sure it is successfully submitted before 11:59 PM tonight

Important Announcement for Peer Recovery Applicants and Rectifying Peer Professionals

The Peer Recovery grant has expired and is no longer available to cover application or recertification fees.

Effective immediately, payment must accompany the application in order for it to be processed for both initial applications and recertification applications.

Please make sure the required payment is submitted with your application to avoid delays in processing.

🚨 WVCBAPP RECERTIFICATION REMINDER – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY 🚨

If your credential has a recertification/expiration date of 9/30/2026, please check your credential and make sure you have submitted your renewal application.

📅 Applications must be submitted online by August 30, 2026 to allow WVCBAPP the required 30 days to review your application prior to expiration.

WVCBAPP DOES NOT ACCEPT PAPER APPLICATIONS.

Applications submitted August 31, 2026 or later require the applicable rush processing/late fee. If the fee is required, your application will not be processed until that fee has been paid.

⚠️ IMPORTANT JOTFORM/PAYPAL REMINDER:

When your application is successfully submitted, you should receive an automatic confirmation from JotForm. If you do not receive that confirmation, please do not assume your application was submitted.

We are seeing applicants accidentally check the payment boxes on the application even though the form states in bold letters not to check those boxes unless you intend to pay through the form using PayPal.

✅ If you are paying through PayPal using the application form, check the appropriate payment box.

❌ If you are mailing a check or paying separately through the WVCBAPP website, DO NOT check the payment boxes on the application.

Checking those boxes will redirect you to PayPal. Once you are redirected to PayPal, your application has NOT been submitted and your progress may be lost. You will need to complete and submit the application again.

Please take a moment to carefully read the instructions on the application before submitting and make sure you receive your JotForm submission confirmation.

📢 IMPORTANT WVCBAPP TRAINING REMINDER

WVCBAPP encourages all credential holders and training providers to regularly review the Approved Provider Listing before offering, registering for, or completing continuing education.

Approval status can change. A provider that individuals have used in the past may not necessarily have a current approval, so please do not rely on previous approval or familiarity with a training organization.

Before completing training for WVCBAPP certification or recertification, please verify that the training provider is currently listed as an approved provider and that their approval is up to date.

Training providers are also encouraged to confirm their approval status before advertising or offering training for WVCBAPP continuing education credit.

We have recently received several certificates from organizations that are not currently on the approved provider list, including some that credential holders may have routinely used in previous years. Unfortunately, training that does not meet WVCBAPP approval requirements may not be accepted toward certification or recertification.

✅ Before you register or pay for a training:

* Check the current WVCBAPP Approved Provider Listing.
* Confirm that the provider’s approval is active.
* Do not assume that a previously approved or commonly used provider is still approved.

Taking a few minutes to verify approval beforehand can prevent problems when it is time to submit your certification or recertification documentation.

When in doubt, check the approved provider list first.

📢 Important WVCBAPP Announcement: New ASAM 4 Training Requirement for AADC and ADC initial and renewals.

Beginning January 1, 2027, all Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselors (AADC) and Alcohol and Drug Counselors (ADC) who are certified and/or licensed will be required to complete six (6) hours of ASAM 4 training.

This requirement will apply to:

• Initial certification/licensure requirements
• Every two-year renewal cycle

The goal of this requirement is to ensure West Virginia’s SUD professionals remain current with the ASAM Criteria, Fourth Edition, and are prepared to apply the most current standards of care in substance use disorder treatment.

📅 Effective Date: January 1, 2027
⏱️ Required Training: 6 Hours of ASAM 4

📢 WVCBAPP RECERTIFICATION REMINDER — EVEN-YEAR CERTIFICANTS

If your WVCBAPP credential is due for recertification in 2026, please don’t wait until the last minute! ALL applications must be submitted online. There are several important deadlines you need to know.

✅ Submit by August 30, 2026:
Recertification applications should be submitted by 8/30/26. Applications submitted after this date will be subject to a $75 rush processing fee.

📚 CE Requirements:
All continuing education certificates submitted for this recertification cycle must:
• Be from a WVCBAPP-approved provider, and
• Be dated between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2026.

⚠️ September 30, 2026 — Credential Expiration:
If your credential has not been renewed by 9/30/26, it will be considered LAPSED.

You will have until December 31, 2026 to bring a lapsed credential back into good standing.

🚨 FINAL DEADLINE — December 31, 2026:
If your credential is not brought current by 12/31/26, you will no longer be eligible to simply renew it.

Beginning January 1, 2027, you will be required to start the certification process over as a new applicant and meet the requirements in effect at that time.

Please plan ahead, review your CE certificates, and submit your recertification application as early as possible. Our goal is to help everyone maintain their credential without unnecessary fees or having their certification lapse.

📢 Important Update for PRSS Initial Certification Requirements

IC&RC has announced a change to the education requirements for the Peer Recovery (PRSS-SUD) credential, effective January 1, 2027.

What changed?
The total education requirement remains 46 hours, but 6 hours of Harm Reduction training has been added. To make room for those hours, Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, and Recovery/Wellness Support have each been reduced from 10 hours to 8 hours. Ethical Responsibility remains at 16 hours.

✅ What does this mean for West Virginia?
These changes apply only to individuals seeking initial PRSS-SUD certification on or after January 1, 2027.

📚 Attention PRSS-SUD Trainers: Training materials and curricula will need to be updated to reflect these new IC&RC education standards before the January 1, 2027 implementation date. Now is a great time to begin reviewing and updating your course content.

Please note:

* PRSS-MH (Peer Recovery Support Specialist–Mental Health) requirements are NOT changing.

* Nothing is changing for PRSS recertification. Current recertification requirements remain the same.

* Individuals who earn their PRSS-SUD credential before January 1, 2027 will not need to meet these new education requirements unless they apply for reciprocity after that date.
