✈️ Imagine building a business for years, only to realize you've created something you can never take a vacation from.

Every family trip gets interrupted.

Every holiday comes with phone calls.

And every time you think about taking a few days off, the same question comes up:

“But who's going to run everything while I'm gone?”

Now imagine something different.

You leave for vacation.

Your employees know their responsibilities.

Your managers understand which decisions they can make.

Your customers are being taken care of.

And your business keeps operating without you having to manage every detail.

💛 THAT is the kind of result I want small-business owners to experience.

Because HR consulting isn't just about employee handbooks, policies, and paperwork.

It's about helping businesses build the structure, accountability, and confidence their teams need to succeed.

It's about developing people who can make good decisions.

And it's about helping business owners enjoy more of the freedom they worked so hard to create.

💡 A business that depends on you for absolutely everything can become exhausting.

But a business with clear processes, trained employees, and capable leaders gives you room to breathe.

And sometimes the most meaningful business result isn't another sale or another customer.

It's finally being able to enjoy a vacation with your family without constantly checking your phone.

That's the kind of success worth building.

❤️ Somebody still remembers the day you believed in them when they couldn't believe in themselves.

And the beautiful part? You probably thought you were just having an ordinary conversation.

Maybe you told an employee they were capable of more.

Maybe you encouraged a volunteer who was afraid to step into a new role.

Maybe you gave someone an opportunity when they didn't have much experience.

Or maybe you simply said, “I believe you can do this.”

And then you went on with your day.

But that person didn't forget.

They carried your words into their next challenge.

They remembered them when things got difficult.

And sometimes, those few words became the reason they decided to try again.

💛 That's something I wish more leaders understood.

Not every meaningful result comes with a certificate, a promotion, a standing ovation, or a thank-you.

Sometimes the greatest impact you make is happening in someone's life long after the conversation is over.

So keep encouraging people.

Keep recognizing potential.

Keep making room for others to grow.

Because you never know which ordinary moment will become somebody else's extraordinary turning point.

And wouldn't it be something to discover that one of the greatest things you ever accomplished was helping another person see what was possible?

— Coach Liz ❤️

😂 Nothing brings a team together faster than the trainer saying, “We're going to break into small groups.”

And suddenly, the whole room changes!

The person who was talking five minutes ago is now completely silent.

Somebody starts looking through their bag like they lost something important.

One person is already asking, “Do we get to pick our own groups?”

And there's ALWAYS that one person who says:

“I'll write everything down, but I'm NOT presenting!” 😂

Meanwhile, the trainer is standing there smiling because she already knows what's happening.

But here's the funny part.

💡 Sometimes the people who are the quietest during training have some of the BEST ideas.

They just need an opportunity to participate without feeling put on the spot.

That's why effective team training isn't just about getting people into a room and talking at them.

It's about creating an environment where people feel comfortable contributing, learning, and growing.

And sometimes that starts with a little laughter.

💛 Because people learn better when they feel comfortable enough to participate.

— Coach Liz

😂 Be honest. When the trainer says, “Break into groups,” are you the GROUP LEADER, the NOTE TAKER, or the person hoping nobody picks you to PRESENT?

☀️ I've learned that one of the greatest luxuries of being a successful leader is having a moment when nobody needs anything from you.

Because sometimes the best part of your day isn't what you accomplished. It's finally having a little time to enjoy the life you're working so hard to build.

I love helping people.

I love solving problems.

I love watching leaders grow and organizations succeed.

But I've also learned something about myself along the way.

I don't want every conversation to be about work.

I don't want every quiet moment interrupted by another responsibility.

And I certainly don't want to spend my entire life helping everybody else build theirs while forgetting to enjoy my own.

Sometimes I want to finish a meeting, put my phone away, enjoy a good meal, laugh about something completely unrelated to business, and simply enjoy the moment.

No deadlines.

No employee issues.

No decisions waiting on me.

Just life.

💛 Here's something I want every leader to remember:

You can be passionate about your work without making work your entire identity.

You can be committed to your organization without being available every minute.

And you can be incredibly successful without being constantly exhausted.

Because the real goal isn't just building a successful business, church, nonprofit, or career.

It's building a life you actually have time to enjoy.

So here's your reminder today:

Handle your responsibilities.

Serve people well.

Do work you're proud of.

But don't forget to make room for the person you are when the workday ends.

— Coach Liz 💛

⛪ The biggest mistake I see church leaders make with volunteers is assuming that because someone has a heart to serve, they automatically know HOW to serve.

A willing heart doesn't replace clear expectations, proper training, and the support people need to succeed.

I've seen this happen in churches.

Someone raises their hand and says, "I'll help!"

Everybody gets excited.

They're given a responsibility.

And then they're expected to figure everything out.

A few weeks later, the ministry leader is frustrated.

"They're not doing what they're supposed to do."

"They never take initiative."

"I have to keep reminding them."

But here's the question I want church leaders to ask:

Did we actually prepare them to succeed?

Or did we just give them a position and hope they'd figure it out?

💡 Here's something I teach leaders:

Before you hold someone accountable for a responsibility, make sure you've given them these five things:

1. CLARITY — What exactly are they responsible for?

2. TRAINING — Have they been shown how to do it?

3. EXPECTATIONS — What does doing it well actually look like?

4. SUPPORT — Who can they go to when they need help?

5. FEEDBACK — How will they know whether they're doing a good job?

Because sometimes the volunteer isn't the problem.

Sometimes the problem is that nobody ever explained what success looks like.

And when good people keep feeling like they're failing, eventually they stop volunteering.

❤️ Here's what I want every church leader to remember:

People shouldn't have to guess how to succeed in a ministry they volunteered to serve.

Give them direction.

Give them support.

Give them an opportunity to grow.

Because when you take care of the people serving the mission, you strengthen the mission itself.

— Coach Liz 💛

10/16/2026

I believe some of the strongest leaders are the ones nobody realizes are carrying so much.

Because when you're the person everyone depends on, people sometimes forget that YOU need encouragement, support, and someone to believe in you, too.

I've met nonprofit leaders who spend their days making sure everybody else has what they need.

Their employees.

Their volunteers.

The families they serve.

Their communities.

Their boards.

Their donors.

And somehow, in the middle of taking care of everybody else, they forget about themselves.

They show up smiling when they're exhausted.

They encourage people when they need encouragement themselves.

They find solutions when they're quietly wondering how much longer they can keep everything together.

And because they're good at what they do, everybody assumes they're fine.

But here's something I want every nonprofit leader to remember.

Just because you're capable of carrying something doesn't mean you were meant to carry it alone.

You deserve support, too.

You deserve a team you can depend on.

You deserve systems that make your work easier.

You deserve to enjoy the mission you care so deeply about.

And you deserve moments when you can stop being everybody's answer and simply be yourself.

Your mission matters. But so does the person carrying it.

And that includes YOU. 💛

— Coach Liz

Nonprofit leaders, when was the last time somebody asked how YOU were doing—and really meant it?

10/15/2026

I see this happen all the time.

A customer complains.

An employee handles something poorly.

A manager says the wrong thing.

Someone doesn’t follow the process.

And then leadership says:

**“We need to have a training.”**

Sometimes you absolutely do.

But strong organizations don't make training something that only happens **after a problem.**

They use training to prepare people for the problems that are eventually going to happen.

Think about it.

Does your team know what to do when a customer gets angry?

When two employees have a conflict?

When someone reports inappropriate behavior?

When a manager needs to correct an employee?

When an emergency happens?

When they encounter something they **don't have the authority to solve?**

That last one is important.

Training isn't teaching people how to memorize every answer.

**It’s teaching them how to THINK when they don't have the answer.**

Here’s a simple framework I like:

**KNOW → PRACTICE → APPLY → COACH**

**KNOW:** Teach the expectation.

**PRACTICE:** Let them work through realistic situations.

**APPLY:** Give them opportunities to use the skill.

**COACH:** Give feedback and help them improve.

Because hearing something once in a meeting doesn't mean somebody is prepared to do it when the pressure is on.

**Don't wait for the mistake to discover what your team was never taught.**

Train before the moment.

Practice before the pressure.

And build people who know what to do **even when you aren't standing there telling them.**

— Coach Liz 💛

Leaders, here's a question worth asking your team:

**“What situation could happen tomorrow that we haven't prepared you to handle?”**

Their answers might tell you exactly what your next training needs to be.

10/14/2026

That’s one of my favorite transformations to watch.

Before we started, they had experience.

They had accomplishments.

They had skills.

They had stories that proved what they were capable of.

The problem?

**They didn’t know how to talk about any of it.**

Ask, “Tell me about yourself,” and suddenly everything disappeared. 😩

Ask about their strengths, and they gave a generic answer.

Ask for an example of leadership, and they couldn’t remember the situations they had handled successfully.

Ask why they should be hired, and their answer sounded more like they were **asking for an opportunity than showing why they were ready for one.**

So we prepared differently.

We identified their strongest accomplishments.

We turned real experiences into clear stories.

We practiced the difficult questions.

We worked on how to explain their value without sounding rehearsed or arrogant.

And we practiced until they stopped trying to remember the “right answer” and started **owning their own story.**

That changed everything.

Because interview preparation isn't about memorizing perfect answers.

**It’s about knowing yourself well enough that when the opportunity comes, you can clearly show them who you are, what you’ve done, and what you can do for them.**

And there’s a moment I love seeing:

When someone who started by saying…

**“I hope they like me.”**

starts saying…

**“I know what I bring to this position.”**

That’s the result. 💛

— Coach Liz

If you have an interview coming up, don’t just prepare to **answer their questions.**

Prepare to **tell your story.**

As an executive, there will **always** be something that needs your attention.

Another email.

Another decision.

Another meeting.

Another person who needs an answer.

Another problem that somehow found its way to your desk.

And if you let it, leadership will convince you that everything is urgent.

But I’ve learned something:

**Everything that needs my attention does not automatically deserve access to me at every moment.**

Sometimes I need to close the laptop.

Leave the office.

Enjoy dinner.

Laugh with my family.

Take the drive.

Sit somewhere quiet.

Celebrate what’s going right.

And remember that I have a life outside of the title people know me by.

I can care deeply about my organization without carrying it every waking hour.

I can be responsible without being constantly available.

And I can be ambitious while still protecting my peace.

That isn’t stepping away from leadership.

**That’s learning how to lead a life—not just an organization.**

— Coach Liz 💛

10/12/2026

I understand how it happens.

Nonprofits are often doing **big work with small teams.**

So people wear multiple hats.

The executive director jumps in.

Staff members cover for each other.

Volunteers fill gaps.

Someone takes on a responsibility because, well… **somebody had to do it.**

At first, it works.

Then the organization grows.

And suddenly you start hearing:

“I thought she was handling that.”

“Nobody told me that was my responsibility.”

“I’ve been doing that for months.”

“Who’s actually supposed to approve this?”

“I didn’t know I was responsible for following up.”

That’s when a helpful culture can quietly become a **confusing culture.**

Here’s something I want nonprofit leaders to remember:

**COLLABORATION does not mean NO OWNERSHIP.**

Your team can absolutely help one another while still knowing:

**WHO owns the responsibility → WHAT success looks like → WHEN it needs to happen → WHO has authority to make the decision**

That clarity matters.

Because unclear roles don’t just create unfinished work.

They can create frustration, duplicated effort, resentment, burnout, and leaders who become the default answer to everything.

So before assuming you need **more people**, take a look at the people you already have.

Ask:

**“Does everyone clearly know what they own?”**

Sometimes the first step toward a stronger nonprofit isn't another hire.

**It’s making sure the people already carrying the mission know exactly what they’re carrying.**
