On Friday, April 17th, we lost the man at the heart of Bergström Wines.

Dr. John Ove Bergström lived 90 years with courage, generosity, and an unwavering belief in possibility. As an immigrant, physician, father, and founder, he touched and inspired generations—through healing hands, thoughtful mentorship, and a deep love for this land and the life it offers.

“If you don’t swing for the fences, how will you ever hit a home run?”

His spirit lives on in our vineyards, in our family, and in the values that guide our work every day.

Rest in power, Papy, Farfar, Dad.

As a young person, Caroline left Burgundy and came to Oregon with Josh and a vision.

What began as a dream has grown into the winery we know today. Built with determination, curiosity, and an unwavering belief in what this place could become.

She is fierce and focused, steady and thoughtful. Someone who believes deeply in the land, in the wines, and in the people who help make it all possible.

Her leadership has shaped not only our vineyards and cellar, but the culture of our team. She looks out for her employees, holds high standards, and continues to guide this winery with strength and purpose.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the woman whose vision helped bring this winery to life.

We celebrate your muddy boots at sunrise, your harvest-stained hands, and how you are always first in the vines and last at our tables.

Because of you, we gather "être ensemble" with glasses poured, stories shared, and always room to pull up one more chair. From Swedish roots, you embody the spirit of "gemenskap," where a heartfelt "skål" turns any meal into a celebration.

A new year brings pruning season to the forefront of our vineyard team's efforts. Decisions made today will impact not only the upcoming 2026 vintage, but also the architecture, health, and vitality of each vine for years to come. Poor pruning decisions can shorten the lifespan of a vine, whereas thoughtful meditation around each careful cut with our pruning shears will ensure health, productivity, and longevity.

Growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in our cool climate requires grit and patience with the weather; a constant compromise with Mother Nature in which we decide carefully, day by day, which task is most optimal. Will we continue pruning through the cold, rain, and snow? There is no other way forward. After all, our dear Oregonian winter carries on with a frequent chance to break out the rubber boots.

It's another season of great importance in which we're grateful for those whose hands, hearts, and minds are so dedicated to our success... rain or shine… although our fingers are crossed for more shine.
