Thinking about Dry January? Take a read of this article from an interesting source. Seems rather objective, which is nice for a change.

One Week from Tomorrow!
Just a quick reminder that on September 20, at 5:30PM, Denise and I will be at the okta Cellar pouring some of our older vintages and lesser known varietals. The link for reservations is below. We hope to see you - it's a cool, little bar directly below one of the most remarkable restaurants in Oregon. Wine, then dinner? -sf

Native Flora owners Scott and Denise Flora will be pouring never before tasted vintages and library bottles.

Despite my innate, Yale-blue mistrust of all things crimson-sourced, The Harvard Public Health Journal offers a nice article pertinent to the hubbub over alcohol's deleterious or meritorious health effects. I continue to maintain that the benefits of moderate consumption outweigh the potential downsides (the ever pervasive J-curve), but heavy consumption will never be good for you. The biggest issue is that the neo-prohibitionist movement is really trying to skew public and government opinion by cherry-picking the data, and creating false linkages to the alcohol industry. This is a good article to pass on to your state and federal representatives should you know them.

Questions like “Is alcohol bad for you?” or “Is alcohol good for you?” are too simple to capture what the substance does to the body.

There has been a lot of news, as of late, about how no alcohol is safe for consumption, including statements from the WHO, and potentially something from the US Surgeon General, shortly. A lot of the communication has been hijacked by a group loosely termed Neo-Prohibitionists, and they don't really look at moderate alcohol consumption research objectively. I ran across this article last week, and it follows in the footsteps of a lot of well documented research. It's a good read, and a decent study. I've always contended that moderate wine consumption is fine for you, and likely beneficial, but will again reiterate - moderate. I don't think I've had a hangover in 45 years or so, and will try to keep it that way, but I do consume some wine almost every day. Cheers. - sf

Bart was playing midnight hide and seek last night. Finally found him hunkered down at the back of block 4, tail wagging, pleased that he had eluded me for so long. Such is a goofy, giant puppy. I was tired and irritated, but then I turned around, and immediately forgave him his antics. He had found the best vineyard vantage point to watch the northern lights!
