Oak apple galls made by a gall wasp. The female gall wasp lays her egg in a newly developing oak twig or leaf bud and the secretions from the hatching larva redirect the cellular growth and the oak unknowingly builds a protective layer around the larva. The galls do not hurt the oak tree. The adult gall wasp has already emerged from these galls.
