🔬 Behind the Science 8: Cryptographic Signatures Explained

Purity Analytics signs every COA with a PKCS 7 digital signature. Here's what that actually means in plain language.

What is a digital signature?
• A cryptographic signature is a mathematical proof attached to a document
• It is generated using a private key unique to the signing organization
• The signature encodes information about the document's exact contents at the moment of signing

What PKCS #7 means:
• PKCS 7 is a standard cryptographic format recognized by Adobe Acrobat and other verification tools
• It embeds the signature directly into the PDF file structure
• Adobe Acrobat can read and verify this signature without any additional software

What verification confirms:
• The document was signed by Purity Analytics (identity)
• The document has not been modified since signing (integrity)
• If even a single character has changed — the date, the purity number, the lot number — verification fails

This is the same technology used to secure legal contracts and financial documents.
