I was happy to see Baltimore for the first time, but even happier I could be there for my friends 30th birthday. Thanks for bringing us all together!

Due to the unique volanic geology of the area, the rocky coast of Fukui, Japan has some really interesting rock columns. It's very common to see people out here fishing, jumping from Rick to rock or relaxing. The water and creatures just beneath are interesting too!

2008 - Kitomizudera (a popular Buddhist Temple in the cultural heart of Kyoto Japan, part of the Philosopher's Path. Absolutely beautiful views of a very old Japan. I love this view of the city, and the crowded, narrow, steep streets and alleys.

Catching that beautiful sunset in the Smokies... I'll be doing that again soon at the end of the month. Where did you experience your most memorable sunset?

An abundance of brush, and burned and broken trees obscure a lot of the views from Shortoff Mountain. After my friends and I hiked in, tired, feeling defeated, and hanging our hammocks in an overgrown campsite, I was pleased to see night sky opening up. I was so tired I just dragged my pack and camera equipment towards me, and without even leaving my hammock, I pointed the camera towards the sky and shot a few images before sleeping. This is probably my favorite photo from the entire trip. The clouds are most likely lit gently by the glow of light pollution from nearby towns. Your hike backpacking trip will never be what you plan or expect it to be. Ride that wave, and accept the resulting beauty. We're at nature's whim.

Rare as this is, I thought I would share a photo that isn't finished being developed. Taken from one of the high points of Shining Rock, in the North Carolina mountains. What a place to watch the sunset and rise of the stars.

Getting back outdoors in 4 days. It already feels like summer!

This was taken in the Nantahala Forest in North Carolina last summer, which brought a mild thunderstorm to the distance, and overnight, even over our heads. This particular night we camped on an old fire tower, but the risk was worth it this time.

Japanese fried chicken (karaage) at a shop stall in Nishiki Market, Kyoto JP. Served up enthusiastically by two young Japanese that jumped at the chance to practice their English.

The hazy moon in the sky tonight reminds me of witnessing the sunset and the moonrise in Nantahala as we setup camp on a fire tower. My friends and I watched lightning in the distance as the light quickly disappeared.

After a strenuous hike through significant elevation changes, sun exposure, and mileage my friends and I settled on a overgrown campsite on Shortoff Mountain. This wasn't our preferred campsite... The nearby view was unimpressive, and we had to clear a lot of shrubbery to hang our hammocks. I was exhausted but couldn't pass up a clear night to capture some stars. View be damned, I dragged my bag closer to me, and setup my tripod snapping a few without even leaving my hammock. Make the best of what you have and the results may surprise you. More to come!
