We know, we know, it’s been a hot minute since we’ve posted on here! Where have we been the last couple of months? Life has been happening over here! Our oldest daughter graduated and is off to college next month (so many things to get ready for!), our youngest is getting ready for middle school (always an interesting transition), we put our home up for sale and decided to move cities…and we’re right smack in the middle of everything. Oh, and there are our work tasks to take care of too…all of you business owners get it 😊 We are grateful to have a full roster of clients that we are taking care of, including a few new ones (we’re excited to share details soon).

Unfortunately, posting to social media has fallen to the wayside but we wanted to let you know we’re still here and that that we still love answering your questions! Please don’t hesitate to reach out 💕

We were recently asked the following question...

"Can I edit my packing slip in Shopify?"

Yes, and we highly recommend it. 👍

By default, the packing slip from Shopify works fine but it's very basic. At a minimum, we recommend replacing the text version of your store name with your logo. We also recommend updating some of the wording to better match your brand voice. Where do you make these updates? Settings > Shipping and delivering > Packing slips > Edit.

If you'd like some specific advice for your needs, please DM us 🙂

"Can you switch from Etsy?!"

Yes, you can!

Many of our clients started out with Etsy but then came to us asking about alternatives once they started feeling that they wanted more control over their brands and shops and felt ready to take the next step in their business journey.

When a client comes to us about this, we first take a look at why they want to do this and see if we can recommend a solution that best fits them and their business.

If you're thinking about moving your shop from Etsy (or creating a store in addition to your Etsy shop), send us a DM or book a call with us!

We're happy to help!

"Do I even need a website?" 👩‍💻👨‍💻

While you probably already know our stance on this question, we wanted to dive into the few reasons why even in the world of social media, you need a website!

1️⃣ You need a place to send people!

Social media is great, and is a good tool to talk to your customers about your products + services, but you are using their platform. On those platforms, you don't own your list of followers and your account can be taken down for unintentionally breaking a rule. If you have a website, people can still find you even if something like this happens on another platform.

2️⃣ When people are looking to work with you or buy a product from you, they want to know where they can find you.

If you don't have a website that talks more about your business, they will start to question: Is this a real business? Your website establishes trust and that yes, you are legit.

3️⃣ It establishes your brand.

Your website is your own little corner of the internet. Show people what you and your brand are all about on your own website, where you control what is said about you. You can also control your customer journey and the look and feel of your brand. You are in charge of this on your own website.

What do you think? Are websites still needed? We’d love to know what you think! ⬇️

"How can I add a Pinterest icon to my images when a person hovers on them?" 📌

If you are doing well with Pinterest or want to do even better, adding an 'on hover' Pinterest icon to your images can help!

It's quite simple to add across your whole site (via your theme file for those on Shopify) or in specific sections of your website (like gallery page or your blog page template). As long as you can insert the following HTML code on the page, it will work!

➡️ Here's the code we have been adding to pages for some of our clients:

That's it! Add that code and test your page... you should see the Pinit icon appear when you hover over an image.

What do you think? If there's something you are looking to add to your website, please let us know... maybe we can help 😉

There are three things you need to check regularly on your website to make sure everything is working smoothly.

Let's dive into them!

1️⃣ If you have an Instagram feed on your site, confirm that the latest posts are showing (and if they aren't, a quick re-authentication will solve the problem).

2️⃣ If you have a quiz on your site, make sure that it's working as you expect (test the flow while incognito).

3️⃣ If you have contact forms on your site, test them to confirm that information is being sent where you expect (email, database).

Are you regularly checking these? 👇

We were recently asked the following question...

"Can I make my Shopify product page look different for some products? Most of my shop is products where I have a great 'In stock, ready to ship' message. I also offer printables, though, and these are always going to be 'Ready for immediate download' and I offer services where there is no need to ship anything. The problem is that all my product pages include the 'In stock' message. How can I better connect my product page to my diverse offerings?"

Yes, Shopify provides a solution for this! You can create an alternate template for products that meet your specific needs 👍

We recommend creating a new template for your printables as well as a new template for your services. If you don't have a Shopify 2.0 theme, this is possible by copying and editing core theme code...which can be a bit challenging. However, this is quick to do with a Shopify 2.0 theme:

1️⃣ In your theme editor, visit a product page and then select Products > Create template (located in the dropdown menu at the top of the page)

2️⃣ Create a name for your new template (eg product-printable or product-service) and select which template you wish to use as a base (the 'Default product' template will work fine if you don't already have a template you want to update).

3️⃣ Make the template changes you wish to make (like removing the 'In stock, ready to ship' text) and save your template changes.

4️⃣ For each product that you want using your new template, visit the product page (via the admin area) and change the theme template from the current template to the new one you created.

After a quick QA (where you visit your live product page to confirm that everything looks good on mobile and desktop), you are all set!
