Friday habit that pays for itself: the subscription audit. Once a quarter, list every recurring charge on your business accounts — software, services, memberships, the works. For each one, ask: do we still use this, and does it earn its keep? Cancel or downgrade what doesn't. Also check whether annual billing would be cheaper than monthly on the ones you keep.

Nobody ever got rich saving on subscriptions, but it's the easiest money you'll ever find in your business. How many subscriptions do you think your business is paying for right now? Guess in the comments, then go count.

Cost-per-job basics, in plain language. Every job you do has three kinds of cost: direct labor (the hours it takes, including yours), direct materials (what goes into the job), and overhead (everything else it takes to keep the doors open — rent, insurance, fuel, software). The mistake most people make is forgetting the third one. Overhead has to be spread across your jobs, or you're paying for it out of your own pocket without realizing it.

Even a rough number beats no number. Try estimating it for your most common job this week and see what you learn. Share your takeaway below.

Here's the pricing math most small businesses skip: before you set a price, know what the job costs you. That means labor (including your own time), materials, and a fair share of overhead — rent, insurance, software, the truck, all of it. If you price from what competitors charge or what feels right, you're guessing. And guessing wrong in either direction costs you: too low and you work for free, too high and you lose jobs you should have won.

Pricing is math before it's marketing. Do you know your true cost per job? Honest answers in the comments.

The most dangerous business costs aren't the big ones — they're the small ones you stop noticing. The software subscription nobody uses anymore. The monthly fee you never negotiated. The supplies ordered on autopilot. The overtime that quietly became the schedule. Each one looks harmless on its own, but together they can eat a surprising share of your margin.

This week, try looking at your expenses with fresh eyes and ask one question about each line: would I sign up for this today? What's the most surprising charge you've ever found hiding in your business expenses? Share it in the comments.
