Some great insight on what’s in store for New England from Nick Russo.

The time to prepare is quickly passing. Now is the time to take measures to ensure the safety of your family and pets.

A reminder when using supplemental heating it must be done safely. Sources may produce carbon monoxide. A battery powered CO alarm is a good idea should we lose power.

Check on your neighbors, friends & family.

Here’s a bit of insurance info that could help.

Should your home get damaged many insurance policies will cover you. Remember to take photos and document any loss you may experience. This can include damage from the weight of snow, ice dams, frozen pipes and if power goes out, frozen/refrigerated food may also be reimbursed.
*policies and state regulations vary, refer to your specific policy for details.

The blizzard Sunday night through Monday is trending towards a worst case scenario. A widespread 1 to 2 feet of snow is expected across Southern New England, and this will be a heavy, wet snow. The combination of heavy snow and wind gusts as high as 60 miles per hour will likely result in scattered to numerous power outages. Snow begins Sunday after 8 p.m. and ends Monday evening. Prepare now!

FROZEN PIPES -

Here’s some great information on the topic. We’ll discuss insurance coverage in follow up posts.

It’s important to know, the current forecast for the northeast is trending colder and frozen pipes can be a real problem.

Protect your home and family with a little prep work, the sooner the better.

Frozen pipes are often an invisible threat, one you might not recognize until the water damage begins. Fortunately, with the right knowledge and a few proactive steps, most pipe-freeze damage is entirely preventable.

ICE DAMS & HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE

Quick disclaimer: Insurance policies aren’t one-size-fits-all. Coverage, policy language, and endorsements vary by carrier and by state, so always review your specific policy and any state-specific amendments.

That said, here’s the general rule of thumb 👇

Most homeowners insurance policies do provide coverage for damage caused by ice dams—such as damage to drywall, paint, and carpeting inside the home.

However, they typically do not cover personal property affected by ice dams, including furniture, wall décor, appliances, or electronics.

Another important point: even though ice dam damage may occur over several days, insurers usually treat it as a single event, meaning one deductible generally applies if you file a claim.

Finally, remember that insurance policies require homeowners to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage. This doesn’t mean grabbing an axe and hacking at your roof.

There are safer, less invasive solutions—many of which we covered in our previous post.

Stay informed, protect your home, and don’t hesitate to ask questions before damage gets worse.
