Will you show off your moves on the street with Public Matters this month? 🩹💃

> On Saturday, June 20th, we’ll be parading down Museum Row for The Art Parade 2026 at LACMA. Join the Boo-Boo Bandage Brigade contingent to help heal LA’s infrastructure ouchies!

>> The following Saturday, June 27th, we’ll be activating The IDEA Lab on Historic Whittier Blvd for Pico Rivera’s World Spirit Festival. Help with prep and installation June 25th-26th and/or with the activation the day of the event.

Whether you love parading for safe streets, talking shop about parks, or simply want to lend a hand, we’d love to have you. Volunteer opportunities are available multiple times throughout June.

Ever wonder what happens when art flexes its civic muscle? 🎨

Jump into six-part online series, “Public Art for Creative Power, Civic Purpose: How Artists Strengthen Democracy” supported by the Educational Foundation of America (EFA). This series explores how artists and culture bearers are strengthening civic health, deepening democratic participation, and helping renew the civic fabric in communities.

Special love to own Reanne Estrada- Co-Principal + Creative Director- who’ll join Part 2: Knowledge is Power: Demystifying Civic Systems Through Creative Practice. This session dives into how artists creatively break down complex topics like voting and budgeting, making them more accessible, relatable, and people-centered.

Look forward to:
 💡Re-igniting civic know-how
✨ Inviting neighbors into the process
🤝 Building tighter, stronger communities

“When I call for an emergency response vehicle, will they get there in time with curb extensions?” 🚨🚑🚓🚒

This is a real fear that people have about traffic safety measures. In these life and death scenarios, every second counts. Research shows that when correctly planned, street safety measures can be time savers for emergency response vehicles.

“Cuando llame a un vehículo de emergencia, ¿llegarán a tiempo con las extensiones de acera?” 🚨🚑🚓🚒

Este es un temor real que tienen las personas con respecto a las medidas de seguridad vial. En estas situaciones de vida o muerte, cada segundo cuenta. Las investigaciones demuestran que, si se planifican correctamente, las medidas de seguridad vial pueden ahorrar tiempo a los vehículos de emergencia.

Camino City Terrace was proof that this myth isn’t true! 🚶🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

In East LA 10.3% of residents don’t have access to any vehicle, that’s higher than LA County’s average which is 8.6%. But at Camino City Terrace we witnessed many joyous residents walking and riding freely.

Are safe streets on your New Year Resolutions?🎉🎊🎇
It’s definitely in ours.

Trees are one way to make streets safe because drivers have to process more information creating a “tunnel effect,” slowing down speed. Street trees were requested for ALL the project corridors in the East LA Moves/El Este Se Mueve Mobility Corridor Plans. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments.
