So, I rarely do this but it a cause close to my heart!
My sister Patricia stared a scholarship fund in memory of our mom, Ruth Turner. The short story is we are looking for any contribution.
Our mom graduated from SCSU when she was about 65. She started after all three of her kids graduated and decided it was her turn!
It gets long from here but if you can help support this cause our family will appreciate it. So read on….
Hello to my friends, family and colleagues.
I hope that you may be interested in this giving opportunity. It’s something that I have thought about for years and finally feel that I can make it happen.
Some of you may already know this but I started a scholarship in memory of my mom, Ruth Churchman Turner. After her three kids all got their college degrees, she decided that it was her turn! She persisted. Ruthie graduated from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) at the age of 65 in front of the school’s Buley Library. The name of the fund is “Ruthie’s Legacy” and will be used for scholarships for women in need of financial assistance.
The annual “Day of Caring at SCSU”is April 3rd. If you donate to the Ruthie’s Legacy fund on or before April 3rd your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
Instructions for donating are on the second page.
The poem “I Shall Pass Through this World but Once,” which was my mother’s mantra and was above our kitchen sink at home for years and years. The sketch, representing a pic of herself, is what my mom drew on the back of every card or personal correspondence. After she died, I took the drawing, and had it made into a stamp and added some words. Now, I use it on all my personal correspondence. Mom was a prolific writer – and some of her friends kept her letters and cards forever.
Kindness to others was more important to my Mom than anything. Her kindness spread, and so, that is what I believe to be “Ruthie’s Legacy.”
It goes without saying that I couldn't be any prouder of my mom and her accomplishments.
Please pass this message on to anyone you know that might be inclined to help. April 3rd the matching gift day! I am very grateful for any support that you can provide for this worthy cause in the name of my mother. I thank you for your continuing support. The scholarship will be for a student in need and/or a woman, a non-traditional student, a journalism major.
My best and many thanks,
Ms. Patricia Turner
I expect to pass through
this world but once.
Any good, therefore,
that I can do or any
kindness that I can show
to any fellow creature,
let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

If you made it this far…..
