I do not plan for things like an EMP, Global Pandemic, Economic Meltdown, Thermo-Nuclear War or the Zombie Apocalypse. Instead, we prepare for a loss of services which we currently have and that would disappear or be reduced in a small locally based disaster or a larger, regional, national or world wide event. I believe that there are six basic needs that we need to have met each and every day. Th

ese include the following; FOOD, WATER, SHELTER, ENERGY, SECURITY and HEALTH & SANITATION. By developing a plan to create a surplus and redundancy in these key areas, we will be able to live well today and if times get tough.

UPS and FedEx have both brought us gifts this week. We will be adding 15 Apple Trees, eight Elderberry Shrubs, 25 American Plum cuttings and another 25 Red Osier Dogwood cuttings to our plantings here at the homestead.

It always seems like we always get our trees during the worst weather of the Spring. It's a good thing that I love the wildlife we have here and look forward to the legacy that we are leaving to the next generations.

I took some time today to do some maintenance and repair to my animal traps. While I may not use them all them time, when you need them, you need them. Whether for pest/predator control or for food production, traps can and should be a part of your preparedness plans.
