In my threat assessment, I combine environmental scans with behavioral baselineing in order to identify deviations from what's normal, to help target interventions.
I remember a young trainee asking during a room sweep, he said " Sir.. what are we looking for?" I told him that we were 'looking for the absence of normal, and the presence of abnormal.' 😎✌️🌻👊❤️

Understanding tort law is crucial for security officers for several reasons:

1. Liability Awareness: Knowledge of tort law helps security officers understand the implications of their actions and inactions. This includes recognizing when they may be held liable for negligence, which can protect them and their employers from legal consequences.

2. Risk Management: By understanding torts such as assault, battery, and defamation, security officers can better manage risks in their daily duties. This awareness allows them to take proactive measures to prevent incidents that could lead to tort claims.

3. Effective Incident Response: In situations involving potential legal disputes, security officers trained in tort law can act more effectively, ensuring proper documentation and reporting that can safeguard against liability.

4. Informed Decision-Making: A solid grasp of tort law enables security officers to make informed decisions in complex situations, balancing enforcement of rules with respect for individuals' rights.

5. Professionalism: Knowledge of legal principles enhances the professionalism of security officers, fostering respect from the public and improving relationships with law enforcement and legal entities.

In summary, understanding tort law equips security officers with essential skills to navigate their roles responsibly, minimize legal risks, and enhance the overall effectiveness of security operations. Training in this area is invaluable for those in the security profession.

Understanding Vehicle Dynamics and Braking

By Shelton Moreland
Executive Protection Academy International Atlanta Georgia

When we talk about protective driving, one of the critical aspects to understand is the effect of braking on vehicle dynamics, particularly when wheels lock up.

Weight Transfer:
When a vehicle is moving, its weight is distributed across all four wheels. However, when the brakes are applied, especially in an abrupt manner, the inertia of the vehicle causes weight to transfer forward. This means more weight is placed on the front wheels and less on the rear wheels.

Locked Wheels:
If the wheels lock during braking, it creates a loss of traction. When this happens, the vehicle continues to travel forward due to its momentum. Locked wheels don’t allow for effective steering or stopping, leading to longer stopping distances.

Implications:
1. Stopping Distance: When weight is shifted forward and wheels lock, the vehicle can skid, increasing the distance required to stop safely. Understanding this helps in anticipating the stopping distance needed at various speeds.

2. Control: A vehicle with locked wheels is harder to steer. In emergency situations, maintaining control is crucial to avoid obstacles or adjust to changing conditions on the road.

3. Evasive Actions: Knowing that weight transfer affects braking allows drivers to plan their maneuvers better. For instance, smoothly applying brakes instead of slamming them can help maintain traction, aiding in steering control.

Conclusion:
It's essential for drivers to practice smooth and controlled braking to prevent locking the wheels. Techniques such as threshold braking—applying firm pressure without locking the wheels—can enhance safety and control in critical situations. Always be aware that the vehicle’s weight and momentum play significant roles in how effectively you can stop and maneuver.

This understanding can greatly improve your effectiveness in protective driving and enhance overall road safety.

The Establishment of Executive Protection Academy International

In 1979 I began formal executive protection training after years of providing security for East Coast music tours. What stood out early on wasn’t flashy new techniques but the way professional schools organized and refined the skills I already used in the field. Executive Protection Academy International grew from that realization: effective protection depends less on gimmicks and more on disciplined process.

Core pillars became clear—threat assessment, route surveys, advance work, choreography, and detailed rehearsals. Threat assessments identify and prioritize risks; route surveys and advance work remove surprises before they occur; choreography ensures seamless movement in dynamic environments; and rigorous rehearsals forge team instincts under pressure. Together, these practices build confidence and consistency, transforming capable individuals into professional protectors.

Executive Protection Academy International teaches that mastery is not about reinventing tactics but about structuring experience into dependable protocols. Our mission is to pass on that organization—so trained teams respond calmly, predictably, and effectively, every time.

Profiling the threat in the executive protection industry is crucial for ensuring the safety of high-profile individuals. This process involves assessing potential risks based on various factors such as geographic location, political climate, and personal circumstances of the protected client.

Effective threat profiling helps security teams anticipate possible attacks or incidents, allowing for the development of tailored security strategies.

By continuously monitoring intelligence and refining threat assessments, executive protection professionals can proactively mitigate risks and provide a secure environment for their clients.

Georgia Professional Security Training: The Importance of De-Escalation Techniques
By Shelton Moreland Copyright 2023

In today’s security landscape, the use of force, especially involving fi****ms, demands careful judgment and restraint. De-escalation techniques are essential skills every security personnel and responsible citizen must master to prevent situations from escalating into violence.

De-escalation involves communication, empathy, and strategic intervention to calm potentially volatile conflicts. By choosing dialogue over force, security personnel can reduce the risk of unnecessary injury, legal complications, and emotional trauma. Citizens equipped with de-escalation skills contribute to safer communities by defusing tense situations before they turn violent.

Training in de-escalation not only enhances safety but also promotes a culture of responsibility, restraint, and professionalism. Whether as a security guard or a vigilant citizen, understanding and applying force de-escalation techniques is vital to protecting lives and maintaining peace in any environment.

The Importance of Quality Fi****ms and Equipment in Security Training

Welcome, everyone. Today, I want to emphasize a crucial aspect of our training at Georgia Professional Security Training: the importance of investing in duty-worthy and affordable fi****ms and equipment. As armed professionals, the tools we choose not only affect our performance but also our safety and the safety of those we protect.

When selecting fi****ms, it’s essential to focus on reliability and functionality. Brands such as Smith and Wesson, R***r, G***k, Ta**us, Sig Sauer, Springfield Armory, Canik, FN, and Beretta have a proven track record within our industry. These companies have established themselves as leaders, consistently delivering quality fi****ms that can withstand the rigors of real-life situations.

Opting for lesser-known or lower-quality fi****ms can lead to malfunctions or failures at critical moments. In high-pressure environments, trust in your equipment is non-negotiable. Every second counts, and the last thing you want is to grapple with an unreliable firearm when it matters most.

As you prepare for your careers in security, I encourage you to do your homework, invest wisely in your equipment, and prioritize reliability. Remember, it’s not just about owning a firearm; it’s about owning one you can trust. Thank you.
