Answering the : My name is Pat Thomas and I have been fortunate to have the career of my high school dreams. I’m a Board Certified Medical Illustrator and entering my thirty eighth year of membership with the Association of Medical Illustrators, AMI.org. I’ve been privileged to have served as AMI president, secretary and on dozens of committees. I also was honored to serve on the board of the Vesalius Trust for Health Education. The AMI has been the foundation of my career and should be part of any biomedical illustrator’s career. This collage depicts a tiny portion of the variety of work I create. The top illustrations are publication illustrations including three from Physical Examination and Health Assessment by Carolyn Jarvis, PhD, APRN which is embarking on its 9th edition. In the lower left is one of 900 plus medical legal exhibits that are the bulk of my work. Finally, most of us dabble in a little fine art. Here is an old sculpture plus some needlework. I remain in awe of the amazing young talent that is just entering this profession.
