Today is a busy day historically speaking. There are numerous events occurring to commemorate the centennial of World War I's outbreak, and there was some more fighting at Petersburg during the American Civil War. In addition, there was the Battle of Ezra Church during the Atlanta Campaign.

The history of Veterans Day

I am helping the Dunn County Historical Society update their permanent Civil War exhibit. The first step in my research is now done. The 1890 Federal Census included a schedule to record the pertinent information about every Union veteran--and unlike the rest of that census, these schedules largely survived the fire. I have completed entering the Dunn County schedules into a database so that I can analyze the data they contain, and get results to help the exhibit, and possibly some publishable articles.

It looks like Sunday will be a big vintage base ball day at Three Rivers Park District - The Landing. There will be matches between the Rochester Roosters and Mankato Baltics at noon and 2, while the Quicksteps will be practicing with the public at 1. Anyone else free to check it out and pick up some pointers?

Just received notification that my paper proposal has been accepted for Liberty University's Civil War Conference! Playing off their conference theme of "1862" and the standard writing assignment of "What I did on my summer Vacation," my title is "How the 52nd Illinois Spent 1862." Liberty is in Lynchburg, Virginia, and the conference is the last weekend in September.
