It’s Hydrangea Season…
The Cape and the Islands which consist mainly of Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Cape Cod have a long rivalry regarding everything HYDRANGEA!
This year looks like to be another stellar year for blooms so be on the lookout for posts and reels to fill your feeds claiming their area has the “best hydrangeas”.
I’m bias being a Martha’s Vineyard Gardener and can say with certainty…We’ve got the best ones! 😎

Looking for a “thriller” in your containers?
These Tradewinds hibiscus are amazing and so easy to care for.

To keep your ‘Island Wind’ Hibiscus thriving and producing its signature ruffled blossoms, follow these care tips:
Sunlight: Requires full sun (at least 6 hours daily) for maximum, vibrant blooms.
Water & Soil: Plant in moist, well-draining soil. Keep it consistently watered, especially once summer temperatures are up.
Fertilizer: Feed every 2 to 4 weeks during the growing season using a fertilizer formulated for tropical plants or annuals.
Temperature: This is a tender tropical plant. It thrives in USDA Zones 9-11 and should be brought indoors before temperatures drop below 45°F

Houseplants used were a Parlor Palm, Stromanthe, variegated ivy, maidenhair fern, peace Lilly and a few spider plants. Added annual color: begonias and impatiens.

It feels so good….

We are finished with our install season. It feels so good but yet, so bad. A harsh 6 weeks of hard work is ready to be paid back. Sit back and enjoy the reels and post throughout the next few months of our hard work blooming!

The secret to creating a shade garden …

Designing a beautiful garden for the sun is totally different than one for the “not so sunny”… and ohh how I love a good shade garden.

In shade, flowers alone won’t carry the show. It’s the layers of foliage, the bold leaves against the delicate ones, the deep greens mixed with silvers, blues, and chartreuse that create the magic. Every texture, every shape, and every contrast matters because shade gardens are all about depth, movement, and creating a space that feels lush, calming, and alive.

A good shade garden doesn’t scream sunny flower borders. To me, it’s more serene and calm but exciting at the same time.

Spring in New England: Where everyone wants lush summer gardens and Mother Nature is still offering frost warnings and emotional damage. 🌧️😂

Friendly reminder from your local garden crew: we are not Amazon Prime with shovels. We’re juggling many clients, muddy boots, delayed weather, and plants that also prefer not to freeze to death.

Your garden is coming. Your hydrangeas have not been forgotten. Your patio pots and window boxes are safe in our thoughts. 🌿

The time has come….

🚛 Trucks are rolling in full of blooming beauties ready to be delivered and planted in our clients garden, containers and window boxes.

It’s for sure, a hard and vigorous well balanced time for us. A lot of Advil and stretching. 8 trucks, 14-15 hrs days, 6 days a week for a month and a 1/2 is what it takes to work on Second Nature Designs crew to get it done.

New England weather (especially Martha’s Vineyard) can be brutal. Rain, wind with gusts that actually make you take a step to get grounded. The temps sway from 40 to 80 in a few hours time. Can you imaging what these poor plants think?

These next 6 weeks are worth it in every sense. The proofs in the pudding!
