Why have I committed to being a life coach for women?

Why did I leave a job with benefits and a pension to go out on my own and work with women leaders and their organizations?

Why would I take such a risk?

THIS⬇️ AND ALL THIS!

There is nothing better than holding space with another woman, while she uses her super powers to become who she truly wants to be!

Pardon my French, but Brené Brown says it so well: "Cruelty is cheap, easy, and chickensh*t! (Dare to Lead, p. 21)"

Seriously! Cruelty can be defined not just by intentional acts of mean behavior or damaging one's role/reputation at work, which -by the way- often looks like bullying, but also "a lack of care for someone's suffering".

How can we make ourselves as leaders available to someone whose needs aren't being met at work? Or, how do we react productively to when we have been abandoned at work and left vulnerable to others' actions?

>Active listen.
>Don't make it yours to fix.
>Reflect back what you hear.
>Let them discover their solutions and then support them. Presence and patience!... so much to work with here.

Interested in developing these skills? You have two options.

📖 Join me for a Micro Book Exploration of authored books that support this philosophy from Brené Brown, Thomas Gordon Gordon Training International, Susan Mackenty Brady and colleagues, and Edward Shein. These authors all support some aspect of being there for yourself, colleagues, and staff; and shifting the status quo of corporate and public leadership.

🚢Cruising with my family but taking a moment to prepare for my launch of Micro Book Explorations!-

🗓️Consistency, commitment, one step at a time, and doing it afraid; these are the affirmations of what I am calling forth with this passion project.

📖Micro Book Explorations are one-hour community experiences for leaders of all kinds, with a specific focus on women leaders. They are structured so that participants can access thought leadership from experts across various fields of leadership and transformation, through a guided summary on topics that emerge from a set of books written by different authors related to common topics.

🎙️Participants then enter a conversation on these topics but without having to have read the books to do so.

How does leadership transformation happen in 1 hour?

We will engage in structured reflection and guided community discussion on the application of what we discover.

🏆No one will leave an MBE as they entered. Transformation will happen through knowledge sharing, connection, and application.

K/VAL's core values of EMPOWER, CONNECT, GROW, and LEAD live out in Micro Book Explorations.

Self-leadership = integrity + core values + self-awareness + commitment to growth + vulnerability.

We have to dare to be who we expect others to see.

How often do you stop to think about each part of this equation? Which components you are clear on and which you may not be? If you've felt discontent, longing, distraction, dissuasion, or anxiety at work it might be time to check in with these parts of your self-leadership before blaming the circumstances that surround you.

"Empower" yourself through reflection and personal development.

"Connect" to yourself regularly through daily check-ins and a commitment to notice what you're noticing. Get in touch with your intuition. Connect with those who are on the level you want to be on.

"Grow" each day by living a life of dedication to being curious about yourself and others.

"Lead" others through your actions. Lead yourself in the direction you want to head.

Leadership shouldn't cost us our joy.

It should reflect it.

Leadership begins long before you lead a team.

It begins with how you lead yourself. It begins with the people and the ideas that you purposefully surround yourself with and the rooms you purposefully put yourself in. It begins with your habits, your rhythms, your values, and how well you lean into your the vision you hold for yourself.

It's about becoming an architect of transformation.

First, within ourselves. Then, within the organizations, teams, and communities we serve.

K/VAL Life Architecture evolves around four core values: Empower, Connect, Grow, Lead.

This isn't just a framework I've studied. It's one I've lived. Therefore, I've developed each and every program at K/VAL Consulting & Life Architects to provide tools that structure transformational work across these core values through spaces of connection with other women and support for the transformational practice of life architecture, and by valuing accountability for women to self-lead and command forth the highest version of themselves.

It isn't simply a leadership model.

It's a blueprint for becoming.

✨ EMPOWER
Transformation begins with self-leadership. We learn to understand ourselves, align with our values, care for our wellbeing, and intentionally choose the woman and leader we want to become and live a life we love!

🤝 CONNECT
Strong relationships are built on trust, empathy, needs awareness & satisfaction, and healthy conflict resolution. When people feel seen, heard, and valued, they become willing partners in change.

🌱 GROW
Transformation isn't an event—it's a lifelong practice. Continuous improvement, curiosity, reflection, and personal development create the conditions for lasting change in ourselves and in the organizations we lead.

❤️ LEAD
Leadership is an act of service. It requires humility, courage, heart, and an unwavering commitment to a mission greater than ourselves.

One of the greatest challenges I see in organizations today isn't a lack of talent.

It's a lack of trust, of compassion, of connection, and of empowerment.

Women leaders, in particular, often find themselves navigating environments where they're expected to prove themselves repeatedly while carrying the emotional weight of supporting everyone around them.

I don't believe women need to become tougher.

I believe they deserve frameworks, tools, and communities that help them lead with confidence, connection, and purpose—without sacrificing their own wellbeing, and their own sense of fulfillment.

That's one of the reasons I created my Bookshop.org collection.
https://bookshop.org/shop/kvalconsulting

These aren't simply books I've enjoyed reading.

They are books that have shaped the way I think about self-leadership, relationships, organizational transformation, continuous improvement, wellbeing, and purposeful living.

Together, they represent the philosophy behind the Empower • Connect • Grow • Lead movement.

So if you're committed to becoming the kind of leader who leads yourself first, builds meaningful relationships, embraces continual growth, and serves with humility and purpose, I invite you to explore the collection.

📚 Start with a book that speaks to you.

Because every great architect studies great designs.

And every great leader remains a lifelong learner.

💚 Empower. Connect. Grow. Lead.

Kim Garrison

"Fulfillment isn't found in having a perfect day. It's found in returning, again and again, to the woman you intend to become."

— Kim Garrison, K/VAL Life Architects

For more than a decade, I've immersed myself in personal development, leadership, and coaching.

📕 I've read the books.
👩🏻‍🏫 Attended the workshops.
📜Earned the certifications.
👭🏻 Coached women leaders.
🔄 Helped organizations transform.

But this past year has been different.

Instead of asking, "What do I need to achieve next?"

I've been asking,

"Who am I becoming?"

That question has changed everything.

🛣️ It led me to step away from a career I loved and into the calling I've felt on my heart for years.

It challenged me to redefine success—not by titles or accomplishments, but by joy, alignment, peace, and presence.

It reminded me that achievement doesn't always lead to fulfillment.

And today, I experienced what fulfillment actually feels like.

☀️ This morning, I set an intention for how I wanted to show up:

😌 Calm. Understanding. Dedicated to my career and my family.

Kennedy and I walked to town instead of driving. She rode her scooter while we stopped to play at the playground.

I coached another woman through a breakthrough.

I wasn't perfectly calm all day.

But each time I noticed myself drifting, I returned to the woman I intended to be.

Then, on the walk home, Kennedy looked at me and said,

❤️ "Thank you, Mom, for listening."

That moment reminded me why I left my job.

Not to work less.

Not to build a bigger business.

But to build a life where I could be fully present for the people I love while helping other women do the same.

That's what Life Architecture means to me.

It's not about creating a perfect life.

It's about intentionally becoming the woman who can build one.

Because the life you long for isn't something you stumble across.

It's something you intentionally design.

💚 If you've been feeling that quiet whisper that there's something more for your life—not more to do, but more to become—I hope you'll keep following along.

I have a feeling we're just getting started.

There comes a moment in every young woman's life when she begins to ask:

✨ Who am I?
✨ What matters to me?
✨ Where do I belong?
✨ How can I make a difference?

Those questions are at the heart of why I created the K/VAL Young Women's Leadership Academy (YoWLA).

YoWLA is Martha's Vineyard's first Leadership & Service-Learning Academy designed specifically for young women entering grades 6–10. Over two weeks, scholars will develop confidence, discover their leadership strengths, build meaningful friendships, learn research and service-learning practices, and partner with local female mentors to create projects that positively impact our Island community.

This isn't leadership by title.

It's leadership through self-discovery, connection, purpose, and action.

Grounded in evidence-based practices including Lean In Girls and High-Quality Service-Learning, YoWLA is designed to help young women learn to:

💚 Know Themselves
🤝 Value Others
🌱 Act with Purpose
✨ Lead with Heart & Spirit
