There comes a moment in every young woman's life when she begins to ask:

✨ Who am I?
✨ What matters to me?
✨ Where do I belong?
✨ How can I make a difference?

Those questions are at the heart of why I created the K/VAL Young Women's Leadership Academy (YoWLA).

YoWLA is Martha's Vineyard's first Leadership & Service-Learning Academy designed specifically for young women entering grades 6–10. Over two weeks, scholars will develop confidence, discover their leadership strengths, build meaningful friendships, learn research and service-learning practices, and partner with local female mentors to create projects that positively impact our Island community.

This isn't leadership by title.

It's leadership through self-discovery, connection, purpose, and action.

Grounded in evidence-based practices including Lean In Girls and High-Quality Service-Learning, YoWLA is designed to help young women learn to:

💚 Know Themselves
🤝 Value Others
🌱 Act with Purpose
✨ Lead with Heart & Spirit

So true!

Through self-disclosure, you get to know yourself intimately. You can then act more concretely on how you feel, which creates more opportunities to grow and develop yourself in new and exciting ways.

"I've rarely ever been supported. Especially by females. Horrible."

Today, I sat in my own coaching intensive surrounded by a circle of incredible women.

During one conversation, a woman shared this expression.

My heart sank. 💔

Not because her story is unique.

Because it's not.

Too many women have learned to play small, stay guarded, dim their light, or question their worth because the very spaces that should have nurtured them instead judged them, competed with them, excluded them, or made them feel unsafe.

Many women leaders carry an invisible wound:

The feeling of not being fully seen.
Not being fully valued.
Not being fully supported.

And when that happens long enough, we begin to believe that who we are today is as far as we're allowed to go.

We stop speaking the dream out loud.

We stop sharing the vision.

We stop becoming.

❓But what if there was another way?

❓What if women gathered not to compete, but to champion one another?

❓What if we learned to see each other's gifts, celebrate each other's growth, and hold space for each other's transformation?

❓What if becoming more of yourself didn't require leaving other women behind?

This is why I do the work I do with women and women leaders!

It is my commitment to help create a culture where women can transform alongside one another—where they feel safe enough to dream bigger, brave enough to step forward, and supported enough to become the woman they know they are meant to be.

Because when one woman rises, it doesn't diminish another.

It gives all of us permission to rise.

💛 Tell me: Have you ever experienced a woman who truly saw, supported, and championed you? Tag her below and let her know.

I am more than grateful for this definition of empathy. Many people use empathy as a synonym for sympathy and or even a general expression of understanding what the other is feeling. Empathy, though, is so much more in depth! It's a space you take with another to express that I am here, I see you, I may not fully understand, but I see how this feels to you.

Wrapping up another incredible Leader Effectiveness Training (L.E.T.) journey! 🎉

Over the past several weeks, these amazing women have done more than learn leadership skills—they've transformed the way they show up in their relationships at work.

Instead of feeling stuck in a box of frustration, resentment, or ineffective communication, they now have practical tools to navigate the Behavior Window, address concerns with clarity, solve problems collaboratively, and get their needs met in ways that are both effective and respectful.

They've practiced Active Listening and Shifting Gears, Confronting Unmet Needs, Developing Relationships in the No Problem Area, No-Lose Problem Solving, and Addressing Values Collisions—all while reflecting on the kind of leader they desire to be.

The result? Stronger relationships, healthier communication, fewer unnecessary conflicts, and a greater ability to create workplaces where people and organizations can thrive.

I am so proud of the growth, vulnerability, courage, and commitment each of these women brought to this experience. Watching those "aha" moments happen and seeing new possibilities emerge is why I love this work.

Leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about building the self-awareness and skills to navigate challenges with humility, effectiveness, and respect.

Congratulations to this incredible cohort! ❤️

There was a time in my life when I was doing all the “right” things… achieving, leading, caring for everyone around me — yet still feeling disconnected from joy, peace, and alignment.

What transformed my life wasn’t becoming someone different.
It was learning to intentionally design my life from vision instead of circumstance.

To slow down enough to ask:
✨ What do I truly value?
✨ Where is my longing and discontent?
✨ What kind of life would I love?
✨ Are my daily actions aligned with that vision?

That practice continues to shape not only my own journey, but the work I now do through K/VAL Consulting & Life Architects and Life Mastery coaching for women seeking deeper alignment, purpose, and fulfillment.

Thank you to Influential Women for featuring my story and reflection in the “How She Did It” series. 💗

"The disciplined life looks impressive, but the well-designed life lasts longer. Before you try to find more willpower, design your environment and arrange your day so you're more likely to follow through."
— James Clear

This quote stayed with me today.

I think many people are waiting to “become” someone before they allow themselves to live differently.

More confident.
More successful.
More healed.
More ready.
More disciplined.

But meaningful transformation often starts the other way around.

It starts with envisioning the life you want to live and beginning to design from that place now.

Not perfectly.
Not all at once.
But intentionally.

Break ground on the life you are currently living.

Question what was built from survival, expectation, fear, or obligation.

Dream about what is actually possible for you.

Then begin living from that vision in small ways:
how you structure your day,
what you allow into your environment,
how you speak to yourself,
what you prioritize,
what you stop tolerating,
and where your energy goes.

A well-designed life is not built through force alone.

It is built through alignment.
