Last week, Thomas, Jeremy, Mark, and Damian represented KFP at RTA's Tie Grading Seminar in Fulton, KY. From classroom education to hands-on activities at the Stella-Jones plant, the guys walked away with new knowledge on how to improve our railroad tie production. Thank you to RTA for hosting such a great event!

Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to host the 4th Annual High-Demand Skilled Trades Career Fair in partnership with Delaware County Economic Development, NICC, and Experience Edgewood.

This year, 13 schools and more than 100 students visited KFP to connect with 15 local businesses, learning firsthand about career pathways, essential skills, and job opportunities in the skilled trades. We were also honored to welcome Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer, who stopped by to experience the event and see the value of work-based learning opportunities in action.

It is always encouraging to see the enthusiasm and curiosity students bring to this event each year. Their eagerness to explore career opportunities reinforces the importance of showcasing the many rewarding paths available right here in Northeast Iowa.

About 100 students got a hands-on look at skilled trades Tuesday, as employers look to the next generation for unfilled positions.

Job Overview:
Drive and operate a semi as part of our fleet of drivers hauling logs, lumber, mulch, sawdust, etc. Drive to and from the job site multiple times per day to haul product in and out of our sawmill. We typically travel within a 150-mile radius of Edgewood. This is an at-home every night job. KFP provides the truck and has team members to help with maintenance.

Forever Cabinets by Kendrick - We have nearly doubled our orders and have lost an employee to retirement. We are looking to hire 3 additional employees in our cabinet division.

Our hours are Monday-Thursday 5 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday 5 a.m. - 9 a.m. We would love to hire a few retired individuals part-time and a couple of full-time employees. We also offer flexible hours for parents with young children.

We are looking for machine operators, craftsmen, and individuals for our finishing department who are self-motivated and results-oriented. The obvious requirements include the use of alarm clocks, a need for steady pay, with benefits, the ability to work as a team, and a positive attitude.

Kendrick Forest Products - We have added more dry kilns and steamers, and will be adding two additional staff members in that area as machine operators.

This past week, we celebrated Thanksgiving with all our locations, Edgewood, Vinton, and Muscatine. It is such a fun and well-loved tradition amongst our family! We feel extra thankful for these crews!

✨Last night we celebrated an amazing milestone for Kevin Funk - 40 years with KFP! ✨

Four decades of hard work, dedication, and growth have shaped
not only Kevin’s incredible journey, but also the progress of
Kendrick Forest Products itself.

So, what does Kevin do at Kendrick Forest Products?
In short — a little bit of everything, and a whole lot of what keeps the wheels turning. Kevin oversees production and shipping operations across Edgewood, Muscatine, and Vinton, while also managing special projects in those locations. He plays a vital role in scheduling production, assists with kiln operations and trucking, and is often the first to roll up his sleeves wherever an extra set of hands is needed.

But Kevin didn’t start in management. Like many of the best leaders, he worked his way through all aspects of production. His first days at Kendrick Forest Products were spent taking lumber off sticks, piling in the mill, running the debarker, edger, and headsaw, and keeping the dry kilns humming. He’s operated every lift, driven semis and log trucks, and built a career rooted in grit, adaptability, and hands-on experience.

When asked what’s kept him going all these years, Kevin says it best: “The people I’ve met and the friends I’ve made. All the challenges we’ve faced to get Kendrick Forest Products to where it is today. It’s very rewarding to work at a place that’s always moving forward.”

When Kevin is not working, he enjoys cruising on his Harley, tinkering in his shop, keeping his vehicles spotless, and kicking back with a cold beer among friends.
