What does Freedom look like when Life doesn’t go as Planned?
For some, Independence Day in the US is about fireworks, cookouts, & time with family. For others, it’s another day of caregiving, chronic pain, special needs parenting, grief, or simply feeling alone.
As a Caregiver to a spouse, my 4th is currently caring for my husband as he is lying on the couch in excruciating spinal pain. After 7 spinal surgeries & a spinal cord stimulator implanted just a few months ago, our holiday celebration continues to look different than we ever imagined.
And yet, I’m still Choosing to Celebrate.
Not because life feels easy, but because I haven’t lost the ability to create something meaningful with what I do have.
I still have the capacity to work, to learn, to grow, to steward what’s been entrusted to me, and to use my voice and experiences to serve others.
Freedom doesn’t always look like Easy & Luxurious.
Sometimes it looks like quiet resilience & choosing a grateful perspective when circumstances feel heavy.
If this holiday feels hard for you, here’s something to remember from a neuroscience perspective:
Your nervous system responds to intentional pauses. Taking even 60 seconds to slow your breathing, inhaling through your nose for 4, and exhaling out through your mouth for 4, signals safety to your brain. It helps regulate stress and restore clarity.
God gave us the Freedom & Power to have more influence over our internal state than we may realize.
Your situation may not match someone else’s highlight reel, but this a Reminder, your assignment was never meant to.
If you’re scrolling & feeling like you’re missing out, pause and remind yourself: what’s in your hands still matters.
Keep building in the small moments & the unseen spaces.
Keep creating with what’s available to you right now.
Life may look different than expected, but purpose doesn’t disappear just because the path changed.
So today, let’s celebrate the opportunity of the Freedom & Power to Keep Creating the Life God called us to Steward. Choosing Intention over Anxiety, because every Faithful step helps reset both the mind & the path ahead.
