The Tulsa Roughnecks strong form this season against top teams continued Friday night in Seattle. The Roughnecks produced their biggest offensive output of the season in a 5-1 victory over first-place Seattle Sounders 2 at Starfire Stadium. It was the first home loss of the season for Seattle who entered the match with a perfect 5-0 mark at Starfire.

Adam Black (photo by Charis Wilson), making only his third start of the season, keyed the big victory with a first-half brace. Former Seattle Sounders striker Sammy Ochoa capped the win with Tulsa’s fifth goal and his first of the 2015 season. The five goals are the most ever scored by the Roughnecks in a USL game.

With the victory, Roughnecks FC improve to 4-5-2 on the season and move from the 11th spot in the Western Conference standings up to sixth place, just ahead of Portland Timbers 2. Tulsa and Portland are tied on 14 points and on goal differential, but the Roughnecks have now scored 14 goals this season compared to 13 for Timbers 2.

The Roughnecks roster includes several players with ties to the Northwest, and the homecoming to Seattle seemed to inspire the entire squad.

Black opened the scoring in just the 10th minute. The Oklahoma City University product buried a left-footed shot from the top of the box to give the Roughnecks an early 1-0 lead. It was Black’s first-ever USL goal.

Pablo Rossi answered for S2 in the 23rd minute when he was left unmarked in front of Tulsa goalkeeper Zac Lubin’s goal, but Black struck again 11 minutes later. Another left-footed effort from almost the exact same spot as his first goal put Tulsa in front to stay.

Five minutes before halftime, Lucas Cordeiro finished from close range to give Roughnecks FC a 3-1 lead at the interval.

Seattle head coach Ezra Hendrickson inserted substitutes Duncan McCormick and Andy Craven, who had been suffering from the flu, to open the second 45 minutes. The changes helped S2 control play in Tulsa’s end of the field to open the half, but a second goal would not come.

The Roughnecks put the game away in the 78th minute when a cross from Cordeiro found an open Kidd Nwabueze in front of goal. Kidd finished for Tulsa’s fourth goal of the night.

Ochoa put the finishing touch on the victory with a shot from the top of the box in the 87th minute to complete the Roughnecks impressive 5-1 victory.
Tulsa will return home on Saturday and begin preparations for the renewal of the Oklahoma Derby. The Roughnecks will travel down the Turner Turnpike on Saturday, June 13 to take on the Oklahoma City Energy at Taft Stadium. The two sides played to a 1-1 draw in the season opener before the Energy recorded a 1-0 win in a U.S. Open Cup match on May 27.

Capacity crowd at launch party to watch announcement

Austin Aztex News Release - www.austinaztex.com

Tuesday, November 26, 2014

AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Aztex announced Tuesday evening that the organization has entered an affiliation agreement with Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew SC. The announcement was made in front a capacity crowd at the Aztex Launch Party held at PGi Austin.

“Columbus Crew SC and the Austin Aztex decided to partner because our respective organizations share a similar player nurturing philosophy,” Aztex Owner Rene van de Zande said. ”We have great confidence in the leadership at Crew SC that makes up for a strong partnership and cooperation between our respective clubs and are very excited for what lies ahead for us.”

"It was important for our organization when choosing our affiliate to make our decision based on the people involved,” Aztex Head Coach Paul Dalglish said. “After several meetings between the owners and technical staff we felt the Austin Aztex and Columbus Crew SC were the ideal match in terms of philosophy on and off the field. We are excited and privileged to partner with the Crew in our inaugural year."

As per the MLS-USL affiliation agreements, Crew SC will be able to loan up to four players to the Aztex for the 2015 season.

Crew SC finished the 2014 season with a record of 14-10-10 and were eliminated in the first round of MLS playoffs as their head coach, Gregg Berhalter, was named one of three finalists for MLS Coach of the Year. The organization was one of the first MLS clubs and plays in the first major soccer-specific stadium in the country, helping spearhead soccer’s growth in the United States.

Early Bird Season Tickets for the Aztex inaugural 2015 USL PRO season are now on sale. With expanded amenities including the beer garden, reserved seating, and a supporters section, fans are able to secure their spot in line for only $50.
