New gear alert!
Over the last few weeks we have been getting use to a new piece of gear/ technology: a GPS Base and Rover system! It's not a big piece of iron that moves dirt but it is just as important as our jobs get more complex. It allows us to layout designs faster, check grades, and better control our sites.
What does this mean for you as a customer? Faster and more accurate work. Greater accuracy in bids or estimating. More knowledge of your site.
Here is an example: we recently bid a larger concrete tear out and replacement job for a state agency. Turns out the the engineers given quantities was roughly 40% less than actually described to be replaced. The difference in this mistake was $200,000+
Another example: we are in the planning and budgeting stages for repairing a lake dam that has failed. The dam is over 360' long and 30' + tall, it creates a 8+ acre lake so it isn't very small. A section has washed out and created dangerous slides in the face. Before I had to eyeball distance, use satellite imaging, and my best guess for quantities. Now I am able to get out the rover, shoot points within an inch accuracy, and get detailed quantities for what is needed to repair. On a project with this much dirt to move it can make a big difference.
As time goes on we will integrate it into our equipment to add greater efficiency. We have already installed a system in our skidloader which reduces rework and the need for a grade checker.
More to follow.
