These positions encompass a broad range of career fields, including homeland security, law enforcement, administration, human resources, IT, logistics, and medical fields. The Application Process is Complex! Keep in mind that the process for applying for a Federal position is very different than applying for jobs in the private sector. Each Federal Agency has its own set of unique requirements, including how to apply, who is eligible to apply, when you can apply, and the required documentation needed to apply. These requirements can be very complex and confusing, and if you do not follow the requirements exactly, you will never be considered for the position. In addition, your Federal résumé must be created in the format specified by each particular agency. The Federal résumé contains much more information and detail than a civilian résumé. It must include such things as detailed job descriptions utilizing keywords that absolutely demonstrate your qualifications for the position; it also requires social security numbers, complete addresses of previous employers, supervisor names and contact phone numbers, salaries, and a detailed listing of all education and relevant training. In addition to the Federal résumé, some Federal job announcements require the all-important Knowledge, Skills, and Ability (KSA) statements or the Executive Core Qualification (ECQ) statements.
