El Paso business owners: 2026 is not a “business as usual” tax year.
Following the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, several changes may affect how you plan, invest, give, and report business income:
• The Qualified Business Income deduction phase-in thresholds have expanded. In plain English, some owners may have more room before the deduction begins to phase out, but the details depend on your income and business structure.
• The excess business loss limit is lower: $256,000 for single filers and $512,000 for married couples filing jointly. Losses above those limits may not be fully usable in the current year.
• Charitable deductions have new rules. Timing, documentation, and whether you itemize may matter more than before.
• Higher-income business owners may encounter the alternative minimum tax sooner, depending on their income, deductions, and other tax preferences.
The key takeaway: waiting until tax season may leave important planning opportunities, and potential surprises, on the table.
