Congratulations 'Iolani Iobotics Team 2023!!!

Aloha 'Iolani Team,

We are so grateful for your support of our students this season and we wanted to take a moment upon our return from Alabama to express our heartfelt thanks to this community. It was quite the adventure getting to Alabama, but in the end, we persevered and had an amazing experience working with many wonderful teams from the mainland, Mexico & Brazil! Maybe it was the pineapple gummies or simply the love and aloha spirit our kids shared - but whatever it was, everyone in Alabama was welcoming and friendly and the camaraderie warmed our hearts (the effects of which are magnified when you're far away from home).

We are so pumped to share with you that our team was awarded the FIRST Impact Award for 2023 at the Rocket City Regional!!!

"The FIRST Impact Award (formerly the Chairman's Award) is the most prestigious award at FIRST, it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the mission of FIRST. It was created to keep the central focus of FIRST Robotics Competition on the ultimate goal of transforming the culture in ways that will inspire greater levels of respect and honor for science and technology, as well as encouraging more of today’s youth to become science and technology leaders."

The team will continue on to compete at the World Championship next week and we can't wait to see what they accomplish there! The kids are pumped and full of smiles today.

Our message for the season is: Ke kū nei wau ma ka poʻohiwi o nā kūpuna (we stand on the shoulders of our ancestors), and our team understands this to mean that we are here because of those who have come before us, who support us in the work we are doing today. Thank you to all of you who have supported them in so many ways. Whether it be your work in the classroom, your participation in our spotlight sessions on diversity and cultural learning, or helping them to prepare for their presentation and giving them the opportunity to learn the skills they need to push through hard and big challenges, you play an integral part in their success. They know that their achievements are not possible without the community that supports them day-in and day-out. Please join us today in celebrating this win!

Diane Sawyer's special report was about all the items in our houses made in China. They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family's home that were not made in the USA. There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they showed truckloads of items, USA made, being brought in to replace everything and talked about how to find these items and the difference in price etc.. It was interesting that Diane said if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items for one year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs. When buying food at Walmart, often on the label it will say MADE IN CHINA or PRC. For example “Our Family” brand of mandarin oranges say on the label “Made In China” I was shocked for a few more cents I could buy the Liberty Gold brand or the Dole brand made in California, look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong), simply choose another product. Think about this: If 200 million Americans each refuse to buy just $20 of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor, fast!!! Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this NOW.
Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and Nobody can take us for granted.
If we can live without cheap Chinese goods in our lives. Buy American made first!
