Always a pleasure to visit with friends and supporters of the Foundation! During a recent visit to the Creston Community Building, Foundation staffer, Julie Posey, had the chance to bump into Alvin Engelke.

You may know Alvin as a familiar face around Creston or as the longtime writer of his local news column. But did you know Alvin also played a role in the start-up and creation of the Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation back in 2004?

What began with a single charitable fund has grown into a thriving community endowment, supporting projects, causes, and people across Calhoun, Gilmer, and Wirt counties. That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident, it happens because of dedicated community members, like Alvin, who believe in investing locally and giving back for generations to come.

We are pleased to announce that anyone wanting to donate Aluminum cans and scrap to the Save the Green Tree Tavern at Fort New Salem can now start dropping it off at the Recycling Center. Please come during business hours if possible and tell the staff so it can be placed in the proper place. If you must come after business hours please label the bags. We accept pet food and beverage cans plus clean scrap. THANK YOU

The Wirt County Solid Waste Authority Recycling Center is pleased to announce it will serve as an Aluminum collection site for the Tabs for the Tavern Save the Green Tree Tavern at Fort New Salem. Please let the staff know if you are dropping off your Aluminum for this project as it will be stored and sold Separately from our regular collected Aluminum materials.

Wirt County Solid Waste Authority is pleased at announce we will soon be working with Trex Company LLC and Nex Trex to help recycle stretchable Plastics into these Beautiful benches. Details on project coming soon. This bench was auctioned off at the WV SWMB Conference this week. More color options are available.
