Statistics tell. Stories sell. And the right story can turn data into action.

That was one of the takeaways from The High Center’s recent On the Road Best Practices Workshop, “Turning Data into Storytelling for Fundraising,” where nonprofit leaders from the region explored how to turn the numbers they already have into stories that inspire donors and funders to act.

A few key takeaways from the conversation:

📈 “Tell the same logical story every time.” Andrea Hobkirk encouraged nonprofits to organize their data around three questions: Is the problem important? Does our solution make a big impact? And are we the best people to do it?

💚 “Statistics tell, stories sell.” Chad Barger challenged organizations to focus on the story of one — one person, rich detail and a solvable problem. Instead of telling donors how they can help thousands, show them how “my $100” can help one person or family.

🤖 “Capture, Connect, Direct.” Dr. Jeff Bullock shared a simple framework for using AI effectively: capture the information, connect it to the tools and data you already use, and direct AI with a clear goal, number and deadline.

And perhaps the biggest takeaway: AI drafts. You think and verify. Don’t hand over the thinking.
