Remember that craft room I showed you yesterday?

Well, after one decluttering session, we managed to gather 3 contractor bags of trash, 10 boxes of donations, and completely emptied 10 plastic storage bins. Not bad for one afternoon with tiny items!🙌🎉

If I showed you a photo of the exact area we worked in, you might not think much changed because we weren’t focused on making it look pretty. We were focused on digging into the bins hidden under tables, tucked into corners, and stacked everywhere to figure out what was actually worth keeping.

When there is simply too much stuff, organizing becomes a giant game of shuffle. Before you can organize successfully, you have to create space!

Today’s win wasn’t a picture-perfect after. It was less inventory to manage, fewer duplicates, fewer forgotten supplies, and a whole lot more breathing room for future sessions. (I’ll be back next week.)

Ten bins emptied in one day? I’ll take that as a victory!😎

POV: Your craft room has become a craft warehouse.🎨✂️

My new client enjoys making wreaths and seasonal crafts for a few local craft shows each year. Over time, she accumulated not only her own supplies, but also supplies from friends and family members who cleaned out their own craft rooms and passed things along.

The room itself is organized, but there is simply too much to keep track of. Ribbon, florals, signs, embellishments, seasonal décor, unfinished projects, supplies for crafts she still enjoys making, and supplies for crafts that are no longer selling.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that organization can only take you so far. Even a well-organized space can become overwhelming when it contains more than one person can realistically use.

Today’s goal wasn’t to organize. It was to edit. To identify what still fits her interests, what doesn’t, and what can be passed along to the next creative person who will enjoy using it.

Sometimes the problem isn’t a lack of storage, it’s simply too much potential in one room!🎀

Saturday’s decluttering lesson: Don’t save the good stuff forever. It eventually gets OLD.

This is a good reminder that useful items aren’t helping anyone while they’re hidden on a shelf.

These toiletries had been sitting in a linen closet for years. Some were expired, most were forgotten, and there was way too much to realistically use. Luckily, I’m pretty sure Listerine and antibacterial soap don’t suddenly stop working at midnight on their expiration date… 😆

A few boxes later, these products were on their way to ECHOS in Elizabethtown, where they’ll have the chance to be used instead of stored.

Remember, the goal isn’t to own the most stuff. The goal is to make sure the stuff you own is actually serving a purpose!❤️

This morning’s project? A linen closet that had quietly turned into a mini CVS.😅

Deep shelves are both a blessing and a curse!

When they’re sturdy and spacious, it’s easy to keep stacking “extras” just in case. Before you know it, you’ve accumulated enough sheets to cover 10 beds, enough towels for a small hotel, and enough toiletries to open a store.

The problem? Much of it never gets used.

In this closet alone, we uncovered expired products, forgotten duplicates, and layers of items hiding behind other items. Like most homes, the homeowner was only regularly using what he could easily see and reach. After just 2 hours of focused decluttering, everything left behind was easier to access, easier to find, and easier to maintain. Most importantly, there was finally room to breathe! But here’s the part that REALLY stood out…

We removed:
🗑️ 8 bags of trash
🧴 2 boxes of toiletries for a local shelter
🐾 5 bags of sheets and towels for the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area

That’s 15 bags and boxes of items that had been sitting on shelves for years!!

It’s amazing how often we store things “just in case” while someone else could be using them right now. Instead of taking up valuable space in a closet, these items will now help people and animals who genuinely need them. Closets are meant to be functional. You shouldn’t have to settle for only using the things on the front edge of your shelves while everything else disappears into the abyss behind them.

This basement didn’t get this way overnight, and it wasn’t transformed overnight either... it took two days! Two, full-day decluttering sessions were needed to open every tote, evaluate every category, and make thousands of decisions about everything you see here.

What most people don’t realize is that clutter is rarely about organization. This basement already had shelves. It already had storage bins. It had stuff contained within stuff contained within other stuff and there was no telling what was inside from 2002, 2011, 2020, and 2024.

What it needed was someone willing to work through years of accumulated belongings and make decisions about what truly deserved space in the home! So, Lucy took off work and spent hyper-focused hours working alongside me to make that happen. We hauled countless trash bags up the stairs of UNusable things and donated two car loads of items that can be enjoyed by others. That’s not easy work, but the results speak for themselves. Just look at all those emptied bins! 🙌🏼

This isn’t the finished result… it’s the halfway point!

My client took a day off work and spent 8 hours in the basement on a beautiful sunny day.

Think about that for a second.😬

She could have been relaxing, shopping, meeting friends, or doing just about anything else. Instead, she chose to tackle something that had been weighing on her for a LONG time.

That’s a HUGE commitment of precious vacation, time, and money.

Real change doesn’t happen because someone buys more bins or finds the perfect organizing product. It happens when they’re willing to break old patterns, make difficult decisions, and keep going even when the process feels overwhelming.

Today was a big step forward, and I’m incredibly proud of what was accomplished.💚

The shelves weren’t the problem.

This basement’s organization system mostly involved putting things into boxes and bins… essentially trying to keep everything up off the floor.

What happened was life.

Over time, more came in than the system could comfortably hold. The shelves filled up. The bins filled up. An elderly parent passed away. Then things started landing beside them. Then in front of them. Then on the floor.

That’s how clutter quietly takes over.

Most people are out enjoying the sunshine this week…

Meanwhile, this is my office. 😅

For the third day this week, I’m spending my day in a cluttered basement helping a homeowner reclaim valuable space in their home. I genuinely love this unique talent of mine!

There’s nothing better than helping someone go from overwhelmed to relieved and seeing a space become functional again. This may not look like much to most people, but to me, it’s exactly where the magic happens.
