A busy working mom called me! Her life and schedule are organized…but her kitchen storage? Not so much. She does ALL the cooking, but every time she looked at the small appliances, cookware, bakeware, spices and kitchen do-dads crammed into her pantry and storage area, she felt overwhelmed. Can you blame her? And now there’s MORE coming… she’s engaged, he’s moving in, and another household’s worth of kitchen stuff is joining the party. NO BIG DEAL (for me!)

So she pulled everything out in advance, added a few moving boxes of kitchen items to the mix, scheduled a few hours off work and called me. I quickly discovered that the entire bottom of the storage area had basically been abandoned since COVID. Old takeout paraphernalia, masks and things that hadn’t been used in years were taking up PRECIOUS space.
One decluttering session later…FUNCTIONAL. 🙌🏼

Spices covering two walls were condensed to one. Bakeware was relocated where it made more sense, freeing up valuable pantry space for FOOD. No more risking her life on a ladder, either! But the best part? The smile on her face as she got acquainted with all the new homes for everything. PRICELESS.

A few hours invested to make everyday life easier and gain some sanity back. 🤗 (You should do it too!)

Whenever I have to travel deep into Lancaster County for work, I am always on the hunt for homemade ice cream in the area. So after staging a house surrounded by corn fields today, I treated myself to an extra big cone of “udderly” delicious butter pecan and Biscoff ice cream. They had a whole wall of antique scoopers, which was SUCH a unique touch of decor! 😋

Clutter Find of the Day! 🃏

While helping a client sort through her late mother's belongings, we came across a deck of playing cards that was missing a card.
Now... who is actually playing with a 48-card deck?😆 A brand-new deck of cards costs just a few dollars, yet this one had been tucked away and saved for years, despite no longer being fully functional.

This is one of the biggest clutter habits I see. We keep things because they used to be useful, because we "might" find the missing piece someday, or simply because throwing them away feels wasteful. Meanwhile, the perfectly good replacement has probably been sitting in another drawer all along. Life is too short to keep settling for the broken, incomplete, or "almost good enough" version of things. Use the good towels. Burn the nice candle. Open the fancy chocolates. And when something can no longer do the job it was meant to do... it's okay to let it go. These are the tiny decisions that quietly add up to a cluttered home.

What random, incomplete item are you still hanging onto? Maybe today is the day to finally part ways with it. I can help you!

This little stack is all that survived.

Today we tackled three shelves in an office supply closet. After sorting, evaluating, and making intentional decisions, two of those shelves are now completely cleared.

The interesting part? Out of everything we reviewed, this tiny pile was all that was worth keeping after 2 hrs.

Bad habits:
✅ Keeping rubber bands & empty binders “just in case”
✅ “You always need a good pan”
✅ Bag of bags

This is why I specialize in decluttering, not just organizing. The goal isn’t finding a place for everything. The goal is deciding what deserves space in the first place.

The rest of the closet will be addressed another day, but this was a pretty great start!

Confession time… This client isn’t disorganized.
In fact, she worked with a professional organizer years ago and this closet has remained organized ever since. The interesting part? Much of what was stored here hadn’t been touched in over a decade.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I don’t typically call myself a professional organizer. My specialty is decluttering. Organization answers the question, “Where should this go?” Decluttering answers the question, “Should this stay at all?”
Before I help someone create a system, I challenge them to decide whether they’re realistically going to use something again. Because beautifully organizing things that no longer serve your life is still clutter… it’s just tidy clutter.

Remember that craft room I showed you yesterday?

Well, after one decluttering session, we managed to gather 3 contractor bags of trash, 10 boxes of donations, and completely emptied 10 plastic storage bins. Not bad for one afternoon with tiny items!🙌🎉

If I showed you a photo of the exact area we worked in, you might not think much changed because we weren’t focused on making it look pretty. We were focused on digging into the bins hidden under tables, tucked into corners, and stacked everywhere to figure out what was actually worth keeping.

When there is simply too much stuff, organizing becomes a giant game of shuffle. Before you can organize successfully, you have to create space!

Today’s win wasn’t a picture-perfect after. It was less inventory to manage, fewer duplicates, fewer forgotten supplies, and a whole lot more breathing room for future sessions. (I’ll be back next week.)

Ten bins emptied in one day? I’ll take that as a victory!😎

POV: Your craft room has become a craft warehouse.🎨✂️

My new client enjoys making wreaths and seasonal crafts for a few local craft shows each year. Over time, she accumulated not only her own supplies, but also supplies from friends and family members who cleaned out their own craft rooms and passed things along.

The room itself is organized, but there is simply too much to keep track of. Ribbon, florals, signs, embellishments, seasonal décor, unfinished projects, supplies for crafts she still enjoys making, and supplies for crafts that are no longer selling.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that organization can only take you so far. Even a well-organized space can become overwhelming when it contains more than one person can realistically use.

Today’s goal wasn’t to organize. It was to edit. To identify what still fits her interests, what doesn’t, and what can be passed along to the next creative person who will enjoy using it.

Sometimes the problem isn’t a lack of storage, it’s simply too much potential in one room!🎀
