We would like to recognize Emily Lawson for her professionalism during the height of Hurricane Helene. Emily answered a phone call from Constable Mason with Edmonton Police Service during the mid-day on September 27th. Constable Mason was requesting a welfare check on his parents who lived in Rutherford County, who he could not get in touch with. Mason was calling from Edmonton Canada 2600 miles away.

Although at the time this center was completely inundated with phone calls she answered his call and provided empathy, compassion, stayed calm and professional through the call. She eventually was able to make contact with his parents and relay that his parents were safe back to the Constable. Constable Mason called the Director days later to find out the name of the Telecommunicator and praised her professionalism during the event. He stated he could hear the phones and radio traffic blaring in the background and was impressed how well Emily performed under those circumstances. He then sent a letter to us asking for her to be recognized for her professionalism during the event and wanted to provide her with a challenge coin and patch from Edmonton Police Service.

This does happen on a daily basis where our dedicated staff answers phone calls to help our callers. We strive on professionalism during any situation and Emily shined through on this day. We wish all our staff could be recognized for each call they take since they all deserve to be recognized for their dedication to this profession. When someone does get recognized by the public we want to make sure it is shared.

Thank you Emily for such great dedication to this profession, this agency, and Rutherford County. You deserve this spotlight.
