Red Sands Bottles and Cans Started in 2016 in an old one car garage, we have continued to grow and adapt to market changes.

Bottle and Can redemption center for ALL bottles and cans that were purchased in the state of Maine that you paid either a 5¢ or 15¢ on. All returnable cans and bottle must be clean with labels AND empty. We do not pay for cans and bottles with no labels or with liquids in them. Some bottles and cans bought in Maine that you paid deposit on may also not be in the bottle registry yet, and we may not be able to take those containers.

What is going on with Red Sands? I'm sure that is what a lot of people are asking right about now. We just had to close early in Ellsworth today so please don't drive all the way in! In a nut shell, this small business works like this. 1. We use OUR money to give you your deposit back for the bottles you bring to us. (Keep in mind, the distributors of beverages in the state of Maine already have YOUR deposit money. They collected it from the store when the store bought the beverages, and then the store got their money back from you at the point you bought the beverage!) There are "pickup" agents throughout the state that pick up the bottles from us on a weekly basis and give us an invoice for what they picked up. Unfortunately for us, the company that picks up the most from us has a long history of lagging on payments to us. Top that off with the other redemption centers in the area being unexpectedly closed this week making us totally swamped! Don't get us wrong, we love the business and hope you keep coming back, but when we see such a sudden increase in business we can blow through our budget really fast, especially when we don't get paid in a timely fashion. All we can do at this point is hope our payments come in the mail soon! See you soon, and thank you for your continued support and understanding.

We will be closing at 11:00AM today to get ready for the "new" quicker sorting setup that we will be starting tomorrow. Once used to it, we will be able to move customers through much more efficiently!

As you may have heard, Hunter and Jeff (the owners) are now operating the redemption center until we can find a suitable replacement for our loyal employee that graciously gave us over six years of his time and energy. He has moved on to bigger and better, and we are happy for him. Part of any good redemption center's job is to educate the public on what is and isn't part of the Maine Redemption Program. Jeff sometimes comes across a little too strong and does apologize for that. He truly just wants to help people do things the right way. It was brought to our attention today that a customer paid a 5 cent deposit on bottles of Pedialyte they bought at Walmart. They were very upset when they were told they weren't getting credit for them even though the label stated there was a Maine 5 cent deposit. Jeff doesn't like to see anyone go away unhappy. He double-checked the Maine bottle registration list as well as going as far as creating an online pickup order with Walmart attached below. Just to make sure, he also added a case of Pepsi (knowing there would be a 1.20 deposit on that). There was no deposit charged on the Pedialyte. However, other stores in the area could very well be charging deposit for items that are not part of the program and say Maine 5 cents on the label. Keep your eyes open!
