***October meeting schedule change***

Hey folks, good news! MCFD12 has received a scholarship to attend the 2026 Washington State Fire Commissioner's Association training symposium in Spokane the latter half of the third full week of October.

Commissioners Nygaard and Ingram plan to attend this symposium to bring the latest and greatest information back to our district to improve administration, compliance, and operation of our Matlock fire district.

Unfortunately, this training conflicts with our regularly scheduled Commissioner's meeting on October 21st, and that meeting is cancelled. A special meeting will be scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October to conduct regular district business and comply with regular monthly meeting requirements.

Agenda and meeting notice for the October 28 meeting forthcoming.

Thank you, and apologies for any inconvenience.

Steve

Probably shouldn't post this here, but too good not to share, so I'm going to.

Earlier this week I was shopping in town and hit the uptown Olympic Hwy Subway for a sandwich. As I pulled in, there were two Central Mason EMS trucks and a Shelton Police vehicle in the strip mall parking lot. Not knowing what was happening, I parked down the block and walked in to pick up my lunch. Inside, there was a Shelton Police officer and three or four Central Mason emergency responders rendering non-emergency aid to an elderly woman who needed some sort of minor assistance. I grabbed my sandwich, sat at a corner table out of the way, and observed as the responders assessed the situation. They had obviously determined that the woman wasn't in emergency distress but rather needed a family member to come pick her up and assist her, which they facilitated. As the crowd dissipated, a couple of Central Mason responders waited with the woman until a family member arrived and safely collected her. After the hubbub, I introduced myself and thanked them for their service and Central Mason's support to the MCFD 12 community and surrounding environs. One of the Central Mason responders said "Mason 12, huh? I'm a huge fan of Chief Mike Brown!"

We are in good hands folks, both within the district and in our surrounding community!

Thanks Central Mason, Chief Brown, and all emergency responders and volunteers, for all you do in support of our community and the greater Mason County region.

Best to all,

Steve

With the recent passage of the EMS Levy renewal, MCFD 12 would like to thank the Matlock community, and those nearby neighbors served by your local fire department, for your continued support. The passage of this levy renewal not only provides necessary resources to maintain the provision of vital EMS services throughout our community, but is also seen as a vote of confidence and trust in the direction your fire district is headed as we continue to rebuild and improve.

That vote of confidence and trust is not received lightly.

Again, many thanks for your continued support.

This afternoon Brush 21 departed Belfair en route to Chelan County to help fight the Little Giant Fire. Brush 21 is joining up with other firefighters from across the region to relieve firefighters that have spent weeks fighting fires across the state. They are expected to be gone for 2 weeks themselves.

Of note, Firefighter/EMT North and Firefighter/Paramedic Quiroz are joined by a volunteer from Mason County Fire Dist 12 (Matlock). This provides an extra hand on our truck and we can help mentor and grow Dist 12's capabilities and experience.
