Yesterday the FSR office embraced Tacky Sweater Day, proving once again that holiday spirit comes in many patterns and colors.

Between bold designs suggestive of winter wonderlands and sweaters that may have required batteries, the office was feeling extra festive. Tacky or iconic, every sweater brought the cheer.

Thanks to our team for leaning into the fun and helping spread a little extra holiday joy around the office.

Markets got jumpy after the Fed’s third rate cut of 2025, then calmed down when inflation came in cooler than expected.

Still, a lot of folks do not feel that relief at the grocery store because prices rose fast and paychecks did not keep up.

In this week’s What the Heck Just Happened, Josh breaks down what moved markets, what it means for retirees, and why staying steady matters when headlines get loud.

The Fed cut rates again, and for a minute the market threw a little celebration.

Then everyone remembered the fine print.

The Fed also hinted they may slow things down or even pause future cuts.

Stocks jumped, cooled off, and reminded us that markets love drama.

Add in big tech prices, heavy AI spending, and questions about what comes next, and it was a busy week.

Watch Josh's short video for the simple, retiree-friendly takeaway.

The markets have shaken off their rough start to November and are creeping back toward record highs.

At the same time, everyone is watching the Fed as it heads into its final meeting of 2025, with many expecting another small rate cut.

That decision, and how the Fed explains it, could move markets in the short term, but your retirement still depends on having a steady plan that fits your life.

Watch the short video for a quick, plain-English recap of what happened last week!

We hope your Thanksgiving break was safe, warm, and full of people you love spending time with.

Last week we celebrated our fifth annual Pie Day. Normally we host a relaxed outdoor tailgate, but Mother Nature had other plans and very politely said, “I don’t think so.”

That didn’t put a stop to all outdoor activities, though. Some of our team still insisted on tossing around a football so flat it felt like a soggy waffle drenched in syrup. It didn’t stop Brian from launching the world’s most questionable pass, which Dave heroically chased straight into York Road traffic.

He lived to tell the tale, so we’re calling that a victory.

Even with the wind and frigid temps, we made use of the fire pit anyway, mostly out of stubbornness and pride.

Inside, things warmed up fast. We had over 150 cans of whipped cream ready to hand out with the pies, which almost certainly qualifies us for some kind of global record that absolutely no one is tracking.

Clients picked up their Lezza’s pumpkin pies to take home, but not before sampling the donuts, muffins, and cookies while we spent time catching up and reciting haikus.

Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and helped make Pie Day 2025 such a success. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are feeling ready to roll into the holiday season.

Thanksgiving is over, but the markets still seemed in a holiday mood.

After a rough week heading into the holiday, stocks bounced back and pushed close to their recent highs.

A big reason why: renewed talk of a possible interest rate cut in December, plus tech stocks shaking off some of the recent drama.

Short term moves like this can feel noisy, but they are a normal part of investing.

In this week’s What Just Happened? video, Josh breaks down what changed, why volatility is not the enemy, and how a solid plan can help you stay confident through all the ups and downs.

Before everyone settles into Thanksgiving mode, we wanted to share one last highlight from our Trivia Night.

It involves canned goods, a giveaway, and a group of clients who approached generosity with far more skill than the Gen Z vocabulary round.

This year we teamed up with the Elmhurst Yorkfield Food Pantry. Their mission to serve local families is something we are honored to support.

Holly from the pantry stopped by at the beginning of the evening to drop off donation bins, then returned at the end to collect everything and offer a heartfelt thank you to our guests. There are a few photos of her with Josh that make it look like they were about to launch a food-focused talk show.

Guests brought non expired canned goods. We hoped for a solid turnout. You delivered 547 cans.

That is the kind of generosity that makes us proud because you clearly understood the assignment better than the Gen Z round.

FSR also added a charitable contribution to help the pantry continue its work through the holidays.

Thank you for showing up with kindness, enthusiasm, and enough canned goods to stock a full grocery aisle. We appreciate you and wish you a meaningful and relaxing Thanksgiving.

And what better way to send Trivia Night 2025 off than a haiku written by Dave?

Laughter, missed answers.
Five hundred forty seven cans.
Community wins.

Look, we won’t pretend Monday is exciting, but Trivia Night definitely was.

If your weekend was even half as fun as our November 13th Thursday night, consider it a win.

Our Third Annual Trivia Night took over the Elmhurst Knights of Columbus, and our team deserves major credit for keeping everything running smoother than a perfect lightning round.

Jen, the Lilis, and Steve greeted guests with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for surprise vacations and fresh coffee. No one got lost, which honestly feels like a miracle.

Madison set the artistic bar high with the hand-painted banner that instantly became the unofficial selfie backdrop of the evening.

Meanwhile, our team hustled through donation collections, guest conversations, and general good-vibes duty.

And yes, MC Michael and DJ Dave kept the crowd entertained from start to finish like the trivia-night tag team they were born to be.

Watch this page, tomorrow we'll be posting more details about the awesome partnership we had with the Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry!

We hope your week is cruising along, because we’re still riding the high from our Third Annual Trivia Night.

We’re not saying it was our best one yet, but, well, it was our best one yet.

Sure, the FSR team came ready to play, but let’s be real, the show belonged to our guests.

You brought the jokes, the cheers, and the questionable-yet-entertaining confidence that makes trivia night truly sparkle.

Big shoutout to The Overthink Tanks, who lived up to exactly none of their name and snagged first place in style.

In their honor, FSR donated to the charity of choice for everyone at the winning table. It was a well-earned victory lap.

From start to finish, you kept the energy high and the laughs loud. Every single person who showed up helped make this year’s event one for the books.

Thanks for joining us, we can’t wait to do it all again next year. Bring your brains, bring your friends, and bring your game faces.

Or at the very least bring your sense of humor.

After 43 days, the government shutdown finally ended and the doors reopened. So what did all that drama actually mean for the economy, the markets, and your retirement money?

In this week’s short What Just Happened? video, Josh breaks down what changed, what did not, why markets jumped then faded, and what he is watching as delayed data starts to roll out and we head toward that January funding deadline.

If you are retired or close to it, this is a clear, no jargon update to help you stay informed without feeling overwhelmed.

11/04/2025

The Fed cut rates again last week, but then immediately hinted they might not do it again in December.

Add in a government shutdown and missing economic data, and it’s no wonder things feel uncertain.

Josh breaks down what’s really happening, why Powell’s “driving in fog” analogy might be a little too fitting, and what all this means for your retirement plan.

Watch this week’s What Just Happened? for the full breakdown.
