Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in our community.

Today seemed like the perfect time to share a fun fact about Black Sheep Pest Protection.

Many people know our mascot, Steve the Sheep, but not everyone knows where he got his name.

The “Steve” in Steve the Sheep is my dad.

In many ways, Black Sheep Pest Protection exists because of him. My father got into pest control in the early 1990s and went on to start his own pest control company in 1995. Growing up, pest control wasn’t just a job in our family—it was a way of life. Like many family businesses, everyone pitched in.

When I think of my dad, one of the first images that comes to mind is a pair of sunglasses just like the ones Steve the Sheep wears. He wore them every day while working outside, helping families and building a business. He spent so much time in the sun that even when he took them off, it looked like he was still wearing them because of the tan lines they left behind.

When we created Black Sheep Pest Protection, naming our mascot Steve and giving him those signature shades was our way of honoring the man who started it all for our family and inspired us to continue serving our community.

So if you’ve ever wondered why a sheep wears sunglasses, now you know.

And to all the fathers out there: thank you. Thank you for the sacrifices your families may never fully see, the responsibilities you carry, and the example you set each day. We are grateful for the dads who help make our community stronger.
