Another aircraft. Another partner. One mission: prove what’s possible when advanced UAS move from testing into real-world operations.

The Project ULTRA team is proud to be working alongside PteroDynamics as we continue flight operations between GrandSKY and Cavalier Space Force Station.

These flights are about more than moving an aircraft from Point A to Point B. They’re helping demonstrate how different UAS platforms can be integrated into complex airspace, operated beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) and used to support practical mission logistics under real-world conditions.

That is the power of Project ULTRA: bringing the right technologies, operators, and partners together to rapidly integrate, operate and learn.

Each flight builds the experience, data and operational framework needed to make advanced UAS operations more repeatable, scalable, and ready for missions wherever they are needed.

Proud to have PteroDynamics on the team and in the air.

GrandSKY was proud to host the Rapid Assessment of Prototype Technology Readiness (RAPTR) Task Force for the OUSD(R&E) Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) event.

T-REX brings government, industry, operators and emerging technologies together to move promising capabilities beyond the lab and into realistic operational environments where they can be evaluated, refined and advanced.

Events like this help shorten the distance between innovation and application by giving teams the opportunity to test technologies against real mission needs, identify gaps, gather operational feedback and accelerate the capabilities that show the greatest promise.

At GrandSKY, that mission aligns closely with what we are built to enable: the infrastructure, airspace, capabilities and operational platform needed to move quickly from concept to real-world ex*****on.

We were honored to support the RAPTR Task Force, T-REX participants and the broader team working to advance technologies at the speed of relevance.

GrandSKY President Thomas Swoyer Jr. joined U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer on the Dawn of Autonomy podcast to discuss where counter-UAS capability stands and what it will take to close the gap.

The conversation covered the increase in counter-UAS funding heading into FY27, why detection alone isn't enough without a track a weapon can act on, and the challenge of scaling from prototypes to production volume. GrandSKY is investing in counter-UAS detection, identification, and tracking alongside continued UAS operations and contested logistics work, with Grand Forks now standing as the counter-UAS center of excellence.

Edge computing capability is now operational at GrandSKY.

GrandSKY was proud to host ArmadaAi and Senator Kevin Cramer to announce our partnership and officially launch Triton, Armada’s 40-foot modular data center, at GrandSKY.

Triton brings secure, high-performance computing, resilient connectivity, and AI processing directly to the point of mission ex*****on. Customers can now process sensor and aircraft data locally, deploy AI and machine learning applications, generate actionable insights in real time, and transmit only mission-critical information back to the cloud.

For customers, this means lower latency, reduced dependence on remote infrastructure, greater control of sensitive mission data, and a faster path from testing and evaluation to operational deployment.

For GrandSKY, Triton connects aircraft, sensors, communications, compute, and mission data within one operational environment. Customers can come here not only to fly and evaluate systems, but also to process data, run AI applications, integrate technologies, and demonstrate complete mission workflows under real-world conditions.

This partnership expands what is possible at GrandSKY and strengthens North Dakota’s role in building the infrastructure required for the next generation of defense, aviation, and national security missions.

Thank you to Senator Cramer and the Armada team for helping us mark this important milestone.

Big news for counter-UAS (C-UAS) in our region: Point Defense Battle Lab has opened its permanent facility at Grand Forks Air Force Base. The mission supports the Air Force in maintaining air superiority by advancing tactics, techniques, and procedures to counter small UAS—and GrandSKY is proud to be a partner in this work.

The base held a ribbon-cutting event on Thursday, April 9.
