A classic Craftsman, reimagined for the way this family lives today. By adding a second story, this Rockridge home gained three bedrooms, two baths, a dedicated office, and a laundry room upstairs - bringing light, function, and flexibility to every corner.

On the main level, walls were opened to create a more natural flow between the kitchen, dining, and living spaces, while a new guest suite expanded the home to four bedrooms and three baths. A series of ridge skylights above the new stair landing floods the interior with daylight, turning the heart of the home into a bright and airy retreat in the middle of Rockridge.

A reimagined floor plan made space for a new primary bath and office space. By refining the layout, introducing natural light, and selecting materials with depth and longevity, the bathroom becomes more than something functional, it becomes restorative.

This kitchen rework is a strategic balance of old and new. Opening up the kitchen allowed us to introduce modern appliances and create a more generous, open dining space - while still honoring the home’s vintage charm. New green trim enlivens the original wallpaper, tying it to the bright kitchen and sea-green tile, balancing character with modern living.

A full basement excavation added valuable new square footage, transforming previously dark, low spaces into a generous family room.

Both floors are connected to a mid-level mudroom where new double doors open to the garden, bringing daylight deep into the home, creating indoor/outdoor flow from both levels.

While the home is thoughtfully modernized, original elements like the copper laundry sink were preserved to honor the character of this Oakland home.

With the kids grown, this 1920’s Oakland home was ready for a more functional, streamlined layout. We converted a former fifth bedroom into a light-filled family room that connected to an open kitchen and cozy sitting nook, creating spaces better suited to modern living.

The laundry was relocated upstairs near the primary suite, allowing us to remove an awkward secondary stair and simplify circulation throughout the home. A thoughtful reworking of the plan designed to support comfort, ease, and graceful living by design.

By replacing a closed-off 1970s layout with an open floor plan, this remodel brought light and flow into this Berkeley kitchen. Designed for both daily living and entertaining, this open-plan kitchen connects directly to the patio through bi-fold glass doors. An inviting island, sunny breakfast nook, and bold orange tile create a space that feels fresh and welcoming.

By enclosing an underutilized balcony, we expanded the footprint of the primary bath to create a space that feels both spacious and personal.

Walnut cabinetry brings warmth to the room, while graphic blue tile introduces rhythm and character, shaping a room that feels grounded yet lively.
